YMML RWY 34 APP?
Just a quick question. Was driving on the Calder Freeway earlier today (towards city) and just prior to the Keilor Park Drive off Ramp exit (Google Maps if you are unfamiliar) I saw a Jetstar A330 that was just about to make a right hand turn come right over the freeway to align with RWY 34. However from my estimates the plane looked to be less than 1000ft AGL, more likely in the range of 600-800'. Is this a normal approach onto 34 or were they very low.
From the google map it seems to be 3.2nm from the touchdown zone on 34 so 1000ft would be good. If they hadn't made the turn yet it would be a bit low but then again it's probably more likely that they were at 1300ft and it was hard to judge from your car .
And if you are not careful it will catch you out and put you in the media and company spotlight. On a normal 3x profile you are 400' high with 6 track miles to go when you start your descent over Sheed( Essendon airport, something only those with a knowledge of AFL get). Trick is get it configured and get it down before you start the turn onto final. Simple.
