Look for a C- 180
Cessna corrosion programme
There will be plenty of pots and pans once Mr Cessna has cleaned out the fleet with the corrosion inpection programme. Short story if you have if you have a good clean machine no big deal, just some man hours to inspect. But all the neglected tired and rotten airframes will be beyond economic repair. The 180/185s tend to survive as they are worth more but an old nose wheel cessna and some old 180s will be running out of options. Good news is the survivers will be worth more once they pass and the ranks are thinned out.

1915,
For the 185, SIDS is now incorporated into the Service Manual, as I understand it.
You have until towards the end of 2014 to complete the required inspections, as I understand it.
I'm sure others may have a different view.
From your photos, you would be in an ideal situation to complete these during the rebuild.
Mine falls into the severe use category but not the severe corrosion zone.
I'll keep you posted on how it goes. Hopefully there are no major surprises lurking.

what... to Airvan or something?
Or 185 used aluminium sales? I hope not.
Interesting times ahead for the fleet, I fear.

There is a 67 C185E just listed for $215k freshly restored.
What do you guys feel about the future of C185's keeping in mind the SID's program etc. Does the type have a commercial role in say 5/10 years time ? Will GA8's or C208's or the like replace it with their seat capacity & turbine engines ... even at the high capital cost ?
Taking one back to zero time is good right ? What will it cost to own & operate a mint condition, well equipped example in say 2020 ? Over capitalisation is always an issue, but quality alway's prevails to the discerning buyer I expect, from a business perspective.

And just how do you propose to "take one back to zero time"? Short of having a time machine I can not see how you could do this.

Cessna states in the SIds doc that the 180/185 should be retired at 30000 hours. I guess that would apply to all the 100's.
My inspection is going ok, at this stage.

For 180 / 185
The Supplemental Structural Inspection Program is valid for Model 180/185 airplanes with less than 30,000 flight hours. Beyond this, continued airworthiness of the airplane can no longer be assured. Retirement of this airframe is recommended when 30,000 flight hours has been accumulated.

saabsforever: "The Moresby 185 is P2 MFX, an ex MAF machine owned by Mack Lee in the 90s. It is a nice one to fly I took it to Kerama and back once".
