Found a few pics in the archives for you.
It's a bit of a trek over water and as you can see the concept of gliding to land is a little "misguided."
(quite a headwind there unfortunately)
Refuge Cove on Wilsons Prom - a gem of a spot that one!

Oh thanks for those pics, looks like it will be a great nav ex, Thats the YFLI airport near whitemark isn't it (the main strip on the island)?
Guess my next thing is to figure out if i'll need to stop in YFLI to refuel or not,
Lucky me has actually met someone's son who's father owns 2 A/C but doesn't have his PPL and he wants to go to FLI for a trip.. - Now to find out what a/c he has and score myself a cheap trip

The ERSA recommends and ATC totally love it when transiting VFR aircraft over the Strait either set up reporting times, every 10 minutes or so, which they call SKED but i cant remember what that stands for. Or nominate a more precise sartime for reaching your destination.
I think it also says in there that if you were not to report at a nominated SKED time you'll get rescued quicker than you would if you failed to cancel a sartime, so choose the sked option.
Also take a hunting knife. Sharks a plenty in that ocean and they will swim away if stabbed repeatedly. Or one of those pulse transmitters that keep them away. If the ditching does not kill you, the sharks will.

I believe & am happy to be proven incorrect that the terminology 'SKED' is short for Scheduled, as in scheduled over water reports or words to that effect.
Love the bit about the hunting knife, adds a nice touch I think 'damo' go & have a peek at the movie 'Jaws', might make you think twice about that statement especially when the white pointer (for Eg) comes up from beneath & surgically removes a leg or two b4 you even know he's arrived for dinner, so you won't need yr 'knife & fork after all!
Would have been a fun trip to FLI in the last week or so with all the lovely wx we have had down Sth
