Question on Instrument Rating test form items
CASA Form 645 Instrument Rating Application has been changed from a one page two sided form, to an eight (8) page form dated 12/2011. The Test Form is included as part of Form 645.
Item 55 in the test form states: At least one approach without Flight Director/Auto pilot. The slash could mean without the FD or without the autopilot. Or without both together?
CAO 40.2 amplifies Item 55 thus: "However, the applicant shall also be required to demonstrate proficiency in instrument approach procedures without the use of the flight director and without the autopilot engaged in aircraft where this is permitted.
Does this mean both the FD and autopilot must be off at the same time - ie manual flight on raw data?
Or can it be interpreted as:
With the FD off (raw data) but AP engaged - or FD on but AP off.
Item 30 in the test form states: "Unusual attitude recovery - no primary attitude indicator"
Assume the instrument rating is conducted in a full flight Level D simulator (Airbus, Boeing simulators) These have two primary ADI's (captain and copilot positions) and a standby ADI.
Would the correct interpretation be that both primary ADI should be disabled and recovery from UA completed on the standby ADI?
Or - interpreted as the PF primary ADI disabled and recovery effected by the PF using the PNF primary ADI? In other words looking across the cockpit.
Your thoughts appreciated - as to me the requirements are not that clear-cut

As for the contradictions contained therein, if you ask 3 different FOI's to clarify, you'll get 4 completely different answers.

"Unusual attitude recovery - no primary attitude indicator"
In my renewal on the weekend I had a primary, and my secondary looked identical......
As for unusual attitudes, I demonstrate them on every approach
I would've thought you'd find it hard to find an aeroplane that can have the Autopilot on with the Flight Director off? I've never come across one I don't think.
