Looking for raa forum
Hello Everyone. I am in the USA and am moving to Australia in the very near future. I am a Sport pilot here in the USA and am looking to buy an aircraft and fly under your same regime in Australia. (Great country you have by the way)
I have searched and am looking for more information. I know about your Raaus corporation that looks after ultralights and sport pilots there, but i'm looking for a forum where I can ask for more information. THere does not seem to be a dedicated section on here. I found a recreational flying forum but that has limited information and I made a single post and was PMed to be told that most people have left that forum now.
Can anyone advise if there are any other resources of this kind in Australia?

Not sure where you first posted, but there may be a degree of mischief making involved, the recreational forum area is a little political at present - handbags at 50 paces
. Don't let it put you off, there are good people that post on both. Of course this section of pprune is not exactly an RA free zone either, with quite a few on here that maintain both GA and RA qualifications.

That is another forum where there is a lot of RAA stuff, has a bit of GA and spotting as well. Bit more civil goings on there, can post without getting abused.

I assume the others are referring to The Aussie Aviator. Google it for the link but don't type .AU by accident! (it is an Aussie site regardless of the non-Australian URL)

I did what Borntofry who comfortably uses terms like RAA and RaAus could have done and googled RAA, and up came:

Nice one HLB, very amusing!!! Reminds me of when a student called "downwind for 35 right" at Moorabbin and someone was heard to say "are you after some free fried rice?". (you should be able to work that one out)
Yeah, www.recreationalflying.com.au is the go. Lots of friendly knowledgeable aviators in there and the guy that runs the site is a top bloke!

I established contact with the owner of the DownWind website forum and he was most helpful prior to my trip to the Australia. I tried contacting others but not as successful. Its not an easy process to come from another country adn to know the rule and regulations of the new country. I also made personal contact with a number of users on that forum and found a flying school that has the aircraft that I am interested in. I did a flight in two aircraft at Airsports flying school in Melbourne. I am going to buy a Texan Top Class aircraft after enjoying the flight so much. Made in Italian, sold into Australia, sold to an American who was born in Mexico who speaks Spanish it is a small world. Look out Australia here I come
