Longreach 09/27 runway

The cross strip at Longreach has been decommissioned as of this morning, if I read my notams correctly
Apparently they are going to put a new terminal building on it.
Should be some interesting arrivals when the north westerlies get up.

In 30+ yrs of flying into LRE I have never used 09/27. Can't say I'll miss it!

I use it anytime I go there. I guess I won't be anymore.

You'd need to use the main strip with all the weight of technology aboard the Bo, Doc.

I had heard that the terminal will go about half way down the main strip on the east & they need the cross strip for entry roads. QF Museum will take over the old terminal.

According to locals, the cross strip has the required foundations for the new terminal. That will save them some work, apparently.
The practice of hiving off public assets to private companies is questionable IMHO. Some of the local operators are none to happy, from what I can see.
