Yes, absolutely sick. I want one.
But at $650K, I think we could buy a Cessna 208 for under $700K, with much lower times, not in need of a new engine in the next little while and carry more cargo/meat bombs.
Isn't there something inherently dangerous about flying so close to sky divers?

Hanging aroud with skydivers is like hanging around with heroin addicts... eventually you start to think that jumping out of aeroplanes is somehow acceptable adult behaviour.

well, I have hung around with 'divers before. Got asked to drive the bus one day. I thought about it little while and replied that, I thought that I would probably be the first one out the door. Another quality crashna......and it did! Poor meatbombs on that one had no height to jump, should have seen the flying saucers they had for eyes!!!!!!!!!!!!! (and btw, i wouldn't be taking the p*ss if the result wasn't good) (no injuries and the plane is commiting aviation again(you couldn't call it flying))
Seen those pilatus vids before tho...good watching. Love the moosic on the first one.
I could almost have one. Remember as a kid at Victoria(watsonia?) barracks watching the army ones operating into a footy field, dumping troops and getting back out with no back track, and likewise for the pick up. Was VERY impressed..the appr is over a hill.

They got it right first time.
Originally powered by a Lycoming GSO-480, then Lycoming IGO-540-A1A (both dogs!), then an O-540, then Turboméca Astazou of various models, then Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-6A and -20, finally the -27. I think some Porters have been retrofitted with the -34 engine under an STC.
The Fairchild Industries license built Porters were fitted with Garrett TPE331-25D, then Garrett TPE 331-1-100 and -101F (Air America) and a 500 HP Lycoming turbocharged piston engine.
Between May 1959 and this year, 562 aircraft were built (still in current production.)
They were always a "special purpose" aircraft, not commercial. At least four operated in PNG, including one piston Porter. One problem I seem to recall was the max gross weight in Australia: 4,800 pounds (?) in Australia; 6,173 pounds max gross weight in the rest of the World and up to 7,500 pounds military configuration. (Empty weight ~ 2,800 pounds.)
The PC-8 Twin Porter was a twin-engined version flown in 1967, but not subsequently developed.
At one stage Pilatus also owned Britten Norman, building Islanders.
