Where are the Apprenticeships?

Where are the Apprenticeships?
As per the title.
For all the talk about a shortage of engineers where are the apprentices being trained to replace them? More to the point where are the apprenticeships available and what do employers want in would be apprentices? How you actually get to an interview? What does a resume need to actually contain? How do those of us with diverse mixed backgrounds who are no-longer 21 actually get to an interview.
Been looking for position on and off for over twelve months. Nothing. The majors don't want me (as I don't fit their mould).
I've had a rather frustrating irritating and difficult time. I cannot trust or like the organisation I did my study with (new Part 66) as despite finishing top (and doing additional study), trying to get to an interview has been impossible. Feedback has NEVER been made available and all I get it a drone on about attitude (yet how does attitude come through a piece of paper.) Suggestions on how to apply have not been given so I have no idea if my resume is too much too little. Something like 12/13 applications for zero reward.
My biggest regret is studying with who I did. The teaching side was good but employment services offered very little and were less than professional in their dealings. I feel I have been so badly mistreated by them that I want nothing to do with them. So much so that if I ever get work I will make that this organisation get none of the follow-up (even if I pay for it myself). The attitudes and egos have rather left wondering why bother. (But then I want to show them just how wrong they were in treating me so badly). I find their statistics misleading and deceptive and I have asked for an explanation but never had a rationale answer. Same with why dispite excelling at the course I have not been able to secure an much as a interview. Even doing additional study for a dual skill set and yet not one possible role or position to apply for. So the most capable, most driven student can't even get a start. Someone who actually one day thought he might actually want to own and operate a maintenance business (and with all the hassle that entails).
So where to next?
Group Training Organisations offer limited scope as you can apply but they will only contact successful applicants and offer no feedback. Employment agencies are not interested in would-be apprentices (HAYS). CASA will not provide details of organisations to write to or contact (odd given the entire aircraft database is made public). The yellowpages is incomplete and inaccurate and given aviation's limited size understandable. An advert in the aviation publication generated some interest (and THAT surprised me) but all petered to nothing (two instantly, one I could never find again and one after 2 months dwindled to nothing - kept getting strung along). Knocking on the doors of the local operators yielded nothing as they are all struggling to keep going.
I have considered advertising in the Australia but $700+ is bit rich and unlikely to yield much.
Why am I even bothering when I can make twice the money doing something much more simply?

Some industries,/employers do not hire apprentices at this time of year. For some reason they like to hire in the new year.....go figure. Although I don't get it, I am looking to start a new apprentice....in the new year (different trade sorry). For me it about timing with my current app, finishing at the end of Jan.
I originally left school into the AME trade, and the only way I got the job I did was through persistance. My chosen employer had had a bad experience with my predescor and didn't want another app. I persisted and he gave me a chance....then we got the recession we had to have and half his work force was wiped out overnight.
I had to front and push, and keep fronting, it was tough.

The company I work for are one of the few in the area that takes apprentices, and as it happens, there will be an apprenticship position going in Mareeba, FNQ soon for a Mechanical Apprentice.

if your starting now and want to work in the airlines get there as an apprentice, at the stage of my career i am in for me the airlines is either a 30k-40k paycut or nigh on impossible due to no current jet type endorsements, and this is coming from a regional airline
call them ask for apprenticeship managers or whoever manages them and pester them
be prepared to move to do it
or do what i usually counsel
find another industry that is less dysfuntional and more rewarding
that being said the company i work for in perth just hired a couple apprentii in addition to the 3 and 4th years we got, usually get them through the local TAFE
