ELT Requirements

Dumb Question

Does a Spot messenger GPS Emergency transmitter qualify as an ELT for the purposes of ELT carriage?

Thanks

Probably shouldn't comment whether it's a dumb question or not.

No, a GPS tracking device is not an ELT.

In New Zealand, no it is not an ELT so does not meet the rule requirements.

I think the reference for ELTs can be found in Part 4 or 5 of the CARs. If the device does not meet the TSO146 or TSO126 (I think) it cannot be used.
