Principles and methods of instruction

G'day all,

Just wanted some help from anyone who has sat this for their Grade 1 instructor rating. Any useful pointers on what to study?

I am aware of the FAA handbook (I think I've got that stashed on he computer somewhere). Anything else worth reading?

And anything else you think is worth knowing/studying for the actual grade 1 flight test?

Many thanks

Johnny

It's a joke of an exam! I have done it while back and all I did was read through the FAA book. Make sure you do the questions. You get the same ones in the exam at least a bunch of them. Don't stress it's pretty easy

Just make sure you have the newest version of the FAA handbook, as the older one doesn't have the "Hierachy of needs" stuff in it. I had to do a fair amount of educated guessing, having not read any of it, but passed anyway.

Post GFA Instructors Handbook

I know I've recommended this some other time on here, but the Gliding Federation Australia (GFA) publish an instructors handbook for their internal use which is available on their website (link: Documents List -- and you want part 1 btw; part 2 is all about glider specific airexs).

It's a very practical document -- so it mightn't be a lot of use for the exam. But part of the role of a Grade 1 is to mentor/teach junior instructors, and I've previously found the information in the GFA instructors handbook very useful for doing just that.

Cheers,

Grade 3

The following link could be worth a look. Again this is more practical based:
