ASIC address
Hi crew
just a quick one, can someone give me the address to send away an ASIC renwal? My laptop is cactus and the iPhone won't load the CASA site for some reason.
Thanks in advance

Soooooo I'm assuming these other mobs are cheaper than our CASA friends, and don't make you jump through hoops on fire to get one?
Didn't know companies other than CASA do ASIC cards??

Yes, it's an attempt to make ridiculous bureaucracy competitive and therefore bless it with the aura of private enterprise. Something like spraying your deo on without taking a shower...
There are about 170 ASIC issuing bodies (IBs). Every security controlled airport had to become one with the introduction of the act and regs. Many however because of the relatively small numbers required have chosen not to issue cards themselves but refer it to another IB such as the ones above.
CASA referred their ASICs to Aviation ID australia after the regulator made such a dogs breakfast of it a few years back. Many will recall the debacle of lost or delayed applications, waiting months for a card etc. In one instance I heard of boxes of envelopes in a store room at a CASA office with applicant's ASICs because they simply could not cope with the application and distribution of the things.
The dust has settled somewhat now. The security clearances in most cases come back in a couple of days and in some cases, on the same day. Card printing and posting takes another couple of days and the card is now valid until the end of the month of the security clearance rather than last day of the previous month. So despite the fact that we all like to have a good old whinge about them, there have been some good steps to improve the process.
One of the reasons for the expense is that the printing equipment to produce the cards with the pretty foil strip (kinegram) is about a $50,000 investment.

Rather than starting a new thread on this rather pretentious issue... just wondering if anyone has gone through the ASIC renewal process recently and what sort of time frame I'm looking at this time around, my last renewal took 8 weeks through CASA and I was nearly caught in a rather sticky situation Can I expect it any quicker now this other mob Aviation ID Australia is looking after them?
Cheers!

I just had my ASIC renewed by CASA @ Merimbula. Took around 2 weeks & they where very helpful. Even got a call from them to say it's all done & shall be sent in the mail soon. I like the CASA ASIC as it's not tied to any particular airport authority.

Very true about the security checks. Interestingly enough, if you are on a foreign passport, clearances are usually done in about 2 days.
There is just no way of telling how long the process will take from one applicaton to the next. I processed one recently where it was about a day and a half from receiving the papework, photo etc to having the card in the mail. 7 - 14 days seems to be about average though.
I'm assuming you meant contentious?
Thanks for the help guys
Cheers n Beers!

I just renewed my ASIC with the folks in Merimbula, and was pleasantly surprised to see that the whole process was completed in 7 days. Given that probably four of those days saw my stuff tied up in the postal system, I think that is pretty good service.
Chimbu,
Given that you did your application through the post that is pretty good. What a lot of people don't realise is that the issuing body you go through is still constrained by how long it takes Auscheck to do your security clearance. There is no way to predict how long that will take. I have had one come back in less than half an hour while others take more than 10 days.
