Paying for on the job training/endorsements
I know it's a touchy subject and we could argue it for ever, however I wanted a few opinions on a specific case of paying for endorsements.
Let's say a person is the CP of a mid-sized charter operator who operate five different types of twins and obviously the CP is endorsed on all of them. Management lease a new type and the CP needs to be endorsed not only to fly it but to have it added to the AOC. Is management being unreasonable to ask the CP to pay for it themself? Is there actually a written requirement for the company to pay for the endorsement for the CP, or is it all up to individual circumstance?
Not talking here about paying for a new endorsement to get a new job or to get a little more twin time etc, but specifically when the company introduces a new plane and the CP has to fly it.

An extract from Clause 16 of the Modern Pilots Award 2010. this reflects the minimum terms and conditions and should take precedence to any individual contract. Look at 16.2
16.1 This clause does not apply to employees engaged in aerial application operations.
16.2 Where the employer requires a pilot to reach and maintain minimum qualifications for a particular aircraft type in accordance with this award, all facilities and other costs associated with attaining and maintaining those qualifications will be the responsibility of the employer.
16.3 Where a pilot fails to reach or maintain a standard required the pilot will receive further re-training and a subsequent check. The pilot may elect to have a different check captain on the second occasion.
What do you think? Fit the Bill?

Writing as the CP of a charter operator who introduced a new type this week ...
As you said, the CP needs to have the endorsement before CASA will add it to the AOC, so, apart from any requirements of the Award, it would definitely be in the company's interests for the CP to have the endorsement.
The cost of any endorsement would be tiny compared to the cost of leasing an aircraft which then couldn't be used because the CP wasn't endorsed - it just makes good financial sense for the company to make this small investment in their operation.
