If he's made it to 71 flying in PNG, especially in those ridiculous helicopter things, he's obviously doing something right

Looks like the Dr beat me to it, was thinking the same thing. I do find long-haul hard work now and will be retiring this year. I think it's importantant to know when to go and for me it's very soon.

Old saying but true to this day,
THERE ARE OLD PILOTS AND BOLD PILOTS, BUT THERE ARE NO OLD BOLD PILOTS.

John Regan ( I am sure he won't mind me mentioning his name) flew up there in PNG till almost 80 retiring in late 2009. He managed OK, and was safe. So I guess it can be done. But reality is that it is a young mans game in an enviroment like PNG. After 70 it would be tough, I reckon. Bill Johns also till after 70.
But I think eventually you should sit back and smell the roses and enjoy retirment.

Ken Andrews was a mchine for a long time...

Up in png I reckon the terrible trio headed by GT will make that's status I reckon... Even though we all know secretly we had beta on who would fall over first.

Recently came across some twin brothers aged 86 who were still flying their 172 that they purchased new in 1967. Good on them.

I flew with Fred Knudsen back in the late nineties out of Tindal when he came up to do some instructing at the Flying Club there. What an absolute gentleman. And what he could make an aeroplane do... He must have been 70+ back then too! Anyone know if Fred is still around? I lost track of him a few years after that...

Cheers

My old Gran used to go to the aero club every month or so and do an hour in a Tiger Moth, when she was in her eighties....she loved it.
As far as me "doing it" these days, my wife has me on "Viagra light"...
That gets it hard enough so I dont fill my boots when I have a Pee!!!

What about Jack Curtiss at Bankstown. Last I heard he was still doing Training and Checking on DC3's at 83 years of age.
