Buying the old YHOX Airport site.

Last time I was in Sydney, there wasnt much happening at the old Hoxton Park Airport site.

Would there be any regulatory impediment to an individual buying the whole parcel of land, building a house and repairing the runway and operating out of it.

Or for that matter, building say 20 houses and making it a private airpark.

Nomore, when was the 'last time' ?

A lot has been built on the site since the closure, and what remained for several months of the runway & taxiways has been utterly demolished ... at least that's what it looks like from the M7.

Back of the envelope calcs: a spare $250M might get you ownership, very rough figures you understand, that would mean the owners of each of those proposed 20 houses stumping up $12M or so. That's without a dime spent on rebuilding the infrastructure that has been dug up, nor demolishing what is there now.

Sad, but reality.

there is no sign YHOX ever existed now, just a collection of very large warehouses over the entire site.

but there is a small conciliation in that the whinging residents to the north who complained about overlooking a runway, now have one massive ugly industrial area instead.

I hope it is a very noisy industrial site with heaps of container trucks coming and going at 4am.
