Gillard with aviation in her sights

Hello guys and girls,

This is the government majority of Australians didn't vote for:

From the SMH:

Prime Minister Julia Gillard's immediate legislative agenda, released on Thursday, is dotted with national security related bills.

Ms Gillard says her agenda is unlikely to gain much attention, but shows Labor is serious about the business of governing.

"Little of this legislation will make headlines or nightly TV bulletins, but step by step it will make a difference to the lives of families across Australia," Ms Gillard said in a statement.

Step by step aviation will become more and more restrictive
One of the first draft laws relates to aviation safety.

No details were immediately available beyond an outline that said the legislation aimed to set up "appropriately severe penalties for threatening air security".

don't wear your ASIC and go straight to jail, don't collect $200
It was not immediately clear if these plans related to aviation safety legislation that was put before the previous parliament.

Separate draft laws, which are part of the priority list, refer to strengthening the clandestine work of the Australian Crime Commission.

The commission's work is focused on tackling organised crime; however, the legislation appears to focus on possible internal corruption.

Ms Gillard said the legislation dealing with the commission would "improve the ability of the Australian Crime Commission to deal with serious misconduct by staff".

look out!
Further draft laws appear to deal with reports handed down by the previous parliament, possibly relating to the yet to be appointed reviewer of counter-terrorism laws.

Perhaps she will put together a 'gun team' consisting of herself, the Tin Foil Fairy, Albanese, the Faceless Men and Mad Bob Katter ??

Count Bob out, I don't think he actually likes her. (Well who in their right mind could?)

If Gillard and her gang take Australia down the same path as Labour did in the U.K then you are doomed. They'll break the bank and take you into big debt.

I find it hard to believe that people are taken in by Labour. I thought that the Ozzies had more sense than to vote them in.

But as long as she lowers the value of the OZ dollar I'll be happy as I'll get more for my U.K pounds.

Hmm Can't say the value of the Aussie has been going down lately, almost 61p and 96 US this morning Likely interest rate rise soon wont give it much downward pressure either!

I must qualify the following by stating I am not in any way supportive of anything this minority left wing megalomaniacal government does or attempts to do, nor do I give a rat's about the "independent's" struggle to avoid another election at any cost to save their seats, but this;

The commission's work is focused on tackling organised crime; however, the legislation appears to focus on possible internal corruption.

Ms Gillard said the legislation dealing with the commission would "improve the ability of the Australian Crime Commission to deal with serious misconduct by staff".
can't be all bad, especially if it surgically removes the cancer that besets the industry. A good start would be a broad terms of reference Royal Commission into CASA.

That's the 2-party preferred, after preferences have been distributed.

Have a look at the full stats and you will see the PRIMARY vote for the Lib/Nat coalition is 5,370,296
Australian Labor Party 4,711,363 37.99 -5.40
Liberal 3,777,384 30.46 +0.76
Liberal National Party of Queensland 1,130,525 9.12 +0.60
The Greens 1,458,998 11.76 +3.97
The Nationals 462,387 3.73 +0.16
Family First 279,330 2.25 +0.26
CDP Christian Party 83,009 0.67 -0.17
Democrats 22,376 0.18 -0.54
Country Liberals 38,335 0.31 -0.01
One Nation 27,184 0.22 -0.04
Citizens Electoral Council 8,017 0.06 -0.16
Liberal Democrats (LDP) 24,262 0.20 +0.06
Socialist Alliance 9,348 0.08 +0.01
DLP - Democratic Labor Party 5,212 0.04 -0.01
Socialist Equality Party 11,160 0.09 +0.06
Australia First Party (NSW) Incorporated 3,670 0.03 +0.03
Australian Sex Party 11,263 0.09 +0.09
Building Australia Party 1,497 0.01 +0.01
Carers Alliance 1,458 0.01 +0.01
Communist Alliance 656 0.01 +0.01
Non-Custodial Parents Party 2,835 0.02 +0.01
Secular Party of Australia 12,752 0.10 +0.10
The Climate Sceptics 4,339 0.03 +0.03
Independent 312,496 2.52 +0.30
Non Affiliated 2,508 0.02 +0.01
To look at it another way, of the 14,088,260 people enrolled to vote only 4,711,363 made the ALP their first choice; that's only 33.4%

Another problem is that with compulsory voting, the indifferent, the ignorant and the uneducated are forced into voting - and they are usually Labor voters, Collingwood supporters or BOTH

Fair suck of the sav Horatio. The only person I know to fit your description of indifferent, ignorant & uneducated voted for the first time this election, despite being 30 years of age. And they voted liberal.

From your post from the AEC figures, it seems that the ALP garnered close to a million more primary votes than the next closest political party, and the most primary votes of any political party.

And only 26.8% voted liberal, and only 8% voted LNPQ, and only 3% voted The Nationals.

A good move would be for the PM to make sure that her minister insists that there is a broad level of representation across the Office of Transport Security within Dept of Infrastructure and Transport (formerly DITRDLG, DOTARS) of people with real industry experience rather than career public servants pedalling their own agendas.

Devil

Apologies Claret,

if my grand-final weekend jesting has trodden on your pinko toes I am sorry.

There are still many, many more people who DIDN'T vote for the ALP than DID.

Secondly, there were very few seats where the Libs and Nats both nominated candidates; usually it's one or the other. It's not as if Lib voters have chosen not to vote for a Nat, or Nat voters have chosen not to vote for a Lib. They have chosen to NOT vote for the ALP!

If you see a Collingwood supporter on a pushbike, should you run him over?

...no - he might have stolen your pushbike!

What does a Collingwood supporter use for protection while having sex?

... a bus shelter

A grand final weekend jester should be able to recognise return jest!

Yes, more people didn't vote for the pinko Labor party than did but more people did vote for the pinko Labor party than any other party by almost 1,000,000; 933,979 to be precise.

And may any team or collective other than the ColliWOBBLES win today's grand final.

Car'n the HAWKERS

Whatever government we ended up with it would've been one that the majority of Australians did not vote for. (A majority meaning "more than half", not "more than the other guy got".)

Primary Votes:
Labour Party: 4,711,363 33.44%
Coalition: 5,370,296 38.12%

I doubt you will ever see any Party with a majority of the primary vote in an Australian Federal Election. It is the majority in Parliament (in our preferential system of voting) that matters.

Independents: 312,496 - 2.22% of the primary vote. They wanted a lot for their 2.22%!

After reading an entire thread of people unable to even comprehend the primary vote table, im no longer suprised there are labor voters out there. And what is the 'labour' party anyway?

Labour is correct spelling of course, though I am aware of the reason it is spelled the american way in the ALP.

Labour MP's are constitutionally disqualified from sitting in either house of the federal parliament under section 44(i) of the Constitution because they have each signed a pledge (i.e. an allegiance) to always vote according to the wishes of the Labour Caucus and not (necessarily) according to the will of their electorate that they serve.

Also, Julia Gillard has dishonoured her affirmation of allegiance when she declared she wants Australia to become a republic when the Queen dies. She did affirm that she would bear true allegiance to Her Majesty
Queen Elizabeth 2, Her heirs and successors according to law.

Why aren't Australians more worried about this than they are about aviation security?

Anyway.......................I say let this pox infested industry die. Then royal commission CASA. (They will have nothing to do at this stage as they will have buried everybody with regulation and documentation)

Then re-build from the ground up. An industry with a bit of common decency.

You fellas let aviation control you. How about exercising a bit of control over your lives
