Being a pilot who flies all over the globe, I am always astounded at the states who choose to re-write the books. ICAO is the standard. The US is the worst for this, or I thought!! Now I find my home land has taken the same path. Have they forgotten the KLM and Pan Am crash? Common standard communications was a part of the breakdown.
SOP's keep us alive and passengers alive. Why go outside worldwide standards.
The US is the worst and most non standard of the english speaking world, why are we furthering the break down. I cringe.
.
For safety sake........STANDARD. We are global, not insular.
We should lead by example and set standards, not follow.

It seems a little odd that manually derived data for vis, wx and cloud aren't included in the body of the Metar but there is manually derived data for the location and movement of the TS included in the remarks section. Even the automatically derived cloud and vis data was available. Even if the screen is airside, the met man included the TS info, why not the vis, wx and cloud? Should have been able to deduce that even though he was "looking through the palings" and include it in the message.

Wonder what happened there?
