Building contacts in a new city

So having taken the advice of many that I have spoken to I decided to make the big move. Jumped in the car left the comfort of the East Coast and went north to find a job. Headed for Darwin with a good thousand hours and all the right boxes ticked!

But I seem to have hit a stumbling block. Although I am here, ready to go and happy to move anywhere I am having difficulty finding contacts to get beyond the front desk of the various operators. It seems that in the end my resume just ends up in the large pile of other resumes and unlikely to get the opportunity to stand out.

My question is, how when you arrived in a new city not knowing anyone did you manage to make yourself known to operators and meet other pilots?

Most of us drink at the Deck Bar on a Friday for happy hour, then move on to Monsoons or the Wisdom bar. You will find most of the stragglers drunk and causing trouble after 10 at the Vodka Bar.

Look for a group of blokes with no woman, generally drinking pure blonde (or whatever is on special) who all have short hair, no facial hair and are loud and obnoxious. The standard night attire seems to be a white collared shirt and blue jeans with way too much aftershave and a large Citizen aviator watch (go figure )

You will then usually find them hitting on whatever skirt they can without to much success, you will also at this stage hear the I'm a Pilot line which does not seem to impress the ladies too much anymore

A merry bunch all and all who are always approachable and friendly.

Hope you like Darwin, good time to get here with the weather starting to offer a sniff of the dry and the return to bulk backpackers and good times.

Hardy is currently hiring guys who meet the minima's and the others won't be too far behind.

Good Luck, might see you round if you are at the Vodka bar after 10
