Things might be safer with a tower, but I cant see how it will be more efficient without a parallel taxiway ?

To those ATCers who are in 'the game' to make a quid....

I wonder if anyone has given any real thought to the accomodation situation / availability (non-availability..??) in KA?

Rentals of $1,600 - $2,000 per WEEK??
Rental Properties for Rent in Karratha, WA - reiwa.com.au

Or, you can buy your own for around $1M.........

BRM ain't quite so bad......

Do ya homework peoples.....

Rotsa Ruck....

Rental assitance is available at both BRM and KA sufficient to cover the costs you indicate. It's a higher figure at KA due to the higher costs. I guess the trick will be to actually get a place to lease.

7 x ATC: approx all up cost $5m pa
Or $714,286 per ATC

5? x ATC : $3m pa
Or $600,000 per ATC

Exactly which part of your anatomy did you pluck these figures from?

Yes, they are plucks, but they were never purported to be auditable figures.
For some reason, I can't get into the OAR site at the moment, but I remember an OAR quote of around $5m to run the Broome Tower.

My line of reasoning is:
  • Staff Recruitment Cost ( they have to come from, or be replaced from somewhere)
  • Salaries
  • Superannuation & other staff overheads
  • Training Costs
  • Transport, Annual airfares & Removals
  • Remote Allowances
  • Equipment
  • Upkeep of equipment
  • Upkeep of buildings and facilities
  • Power & Utilities
  • Motor vehicles
  • Radio Techs & their costs

The trouble with these standalone and remote units is that you loose the economy of scale.

I'm happy for someone from ASA to put me straight.

Angry

I just love the "revisionists" who have no corporate knowledge beyond the day they left school!

We have the publicist lady from QF with "What relevance does the Super Constellation have to Qantas" and "The inaugural service to New York, Buenos Aires......[fill in blank space!!]"

Now we have "It will be the first combined facility of its type in Australia"!

There used to be a little red brick building in the middle of an aerodrome called Sydney Kingsford-Smith International Airport which [surprise!] housed ATC and the Fire Service.

Aaaah....the G.O.D.'s

G'day

So THAT's why Dick has been so quiet. Been working on his doco. Must have been talking to Bob about the population explosion at the same time as the near explosion over Launy...

Mind you, I tend to agree with him on the first one...

You wouldn't if you explored the issue a bit deeper - he/they would scare the crap out of you.

Well, D Day approaches. Is it already to go. I notice that I haven't received a Jepp amendment as yet. Have the diagrams of the airspace, and the notams with the frequency's etc.

Wonder how many local aircraft have servicable transponders?

It's a bloody disgrace. Word from the KTA refueller is that they are all on the A380 stuck in LAX. They'd be too stingy to do an extra run and get them delivered DHL. Jepp should have it's licence pulled by CASA.

As for the tower, no more fun and games self-separation. Boo Hoo. And keep your eyeballs out for Dikofants floating around in E not talking to anybody.

Anyone else up for a class action against Jeppesen for failing to provide the contracted document service for safety critical documents?

The story goes that the shipment was to be placed on one of the QF A380's that got cancelled. So the consignment was then placed with UPS. Somewhere, UPS have lost the consignment and I'm guessing therefore didn't give Jeppesen enough time to arrange more.

So, to be fair, I'm not entirely sure it's Jeppesen's fault. Maybe roll the blame onto Airbus, Rolls Royce, Qantas, then UPS, .

Count me in. Not even a word that they'll be late. Arrogance!
