Logbook Sticky Labels
Hi Guys,
Having recently passed my Private flight test, I had tentatively organised to take a plane away on a week-long hour building trip, this weekend.
Unfortunately, CASA has informed me that I won't see the actual license until around a fortnight, throwing my plans out the window. I just hadn't anticipated it taking so long (Flight school also took a week or so to actually send the application off).
Now, I know of a few guys who have had 'Sticky Labels' put in the Flight Test section of their logbook, immediately after the flight-test.
Does this sticky label entitle them to exercise the privilege of the license, even before the piece of paper is received? Are you supposed to receive a 'Sticky Label' after each flight test?

Sticky labels are all that is required for RATINGS (IFR/Night/PA31)
For a PPL/CPL you must have your LICENCE (The paper thing that gets sent to you in the mail)
You're still a GFPT as far as CASA is concerned until you get the PPL Paper!

Just to add some balance to the discussion, the Captain's correct.
You physically need the licence, your logbook being endorsed won't cut it. For ratings and endorsements, the stickers are all you need, but not for licences.
Waiting for your licence to arrive feels like eternity, best I can suggest is if you're on the CASA portal, check its status and progress there, then at least you'll know a day or two before it arrives.

No it doesn’t. Unless you can get the approval of CASA you can’t operate an aircraft without your licence on you.

operation of an aircraft without a licence?
A person may perform a duty essential to the operation of an
Australian aircraft during flight time without holding a flight
crew licence, a special pilot licence or a certificate of
validation if:
(a) the person:
(i) is accompanied by an authorised flight instructor;
and
(ii) is receiving flying training; or
(b) the person is attempting a flight test for the purpose of
qualifying for a flight crew licence; or
(c) the person is being assessed by a chief flying instructor for
the purpose of enabling the instructor to make a
determination under subregulation 5.83 (2).
Note A determination under subregulation 5.83 (2) in relation to a person
affects the training that the person must complete to be qualified for a
private pilot (aeroplane) licence.
139 Documents to be carried in Australian aircraft
(1) Subject to subregulation (2), the pilot in command of an
aircraft, when flying, must carry on the aircraft:
(a) its certificate of registration;
(b) its certificate of airworthiness;
(c) unless CASA otherwise approves, its maintenance release

to the maintenance release for the purposes of a provision
of these regulations;
(d) unless CASA otherwise approves, the licences and
medical certificates of the operating crew;
(e) the flight manual (if any) for the aircraft;
(f) any licence in force with respect to the radio equipment in
the aircraft;
(g) if the aircraft is carrying passengers — a list of the names,
places of embarkation and places of destination of the
passengers;
(h) if the aircraft is carrying cargo — the bills of lading and
manifests with respect to the cargo.
Penalty: 10 penalty units.

2 weeks seems to be too short a wait.. casa could never be that good, 6 weeks mine took...
i had the same dilemma, I got my license about 3 days after I was due to take a long trip.

I received an e-mail from personalised e-mail from CASA (after prompting them) saying it will take 14 days from the Monday just past. Perhaps they've sped up the process?
Just registered for the CASA Self Service Portal - I should receive a letter before two weeks Because they couldn't have automatic registration, and e-mail my login details? Fuming.

When I was waiting for my CPL to be issued I gave CASA a call to see if I could speed up the process at all for a job. The solution they provided was that they would fax it to me as soon as it was processed. When I questioned whether the faxed version would be sufficient for exercising the privileges of the licence, they said no.

Only takes a day or two for it to arrive once its processed, but its the 12 day wait for them to receive a piece of paper and click a few buttons that makes it frustrating.

I'm still amazed that I have to wait 14 days, for a login to the self-service portal, to check on my license which funnily enough, is 14 days away.
Oh, and don't get me started on the I spoke to at Flight Crew Licensing today, just made the whole thing worse.

You have to wait for a lot of things in life. This will be just one of them.

CAR 139 1.d gives CASA the authority to grant you an exemption from having to carry your licence and medical. I wouldn't bother phoning them as it is too easy for them to fob you off. Go into the nearest field office and ask an FOI directly. You will probably have more luck this way. CASA field offices are located here:

404 - Thanks for pointing this out, I had come across it but have little faith that CASA would grant me 10 or so days of flying without my license (I hope i'm proved wrong). Though, I will be doing the flying with a mate, who also happens to be an Senior Instructor. Not sure if this will hold any weight in there eyes?

A week after passing my CPL, I had a job lined up . I called CASA and told them my story and my CPL application was processed the next day and the paperwork arrived via post 3 days later.
