SIN transfers

Hi all,

Probably the wrong forum but can't find a better one to post on.

We arrive in SIN in a few days with commercial ticket and hope to leave on a QF flight on the same day with 8 hours to wait for a flight home.

The flight is quite tight loadings wise, so do we clear customs or wait in transit to see how how we go for a seat?

We have a good upload priority, J15 with 30+ years but just want to get our backside on a seat home.

Thanks and please excuse the forum choice as the wine is nice in Vietnam.

If you are in transit for more than five hours a tour is available if you fancy a look a round. Otherwise a very pleasant airport to spend time in, cinema, pool gym, massage chairs, excellent shopping and eating.

You may need to clear customs with your baggage and then check-in/standy for the QF flight. Being waitlist for the QF flight means the first Airline probably wont be able to "interline" your baggage through to your final destination in Oz with QF.

I maybe wrong but be prepared to have to clear customs/imm and go outside. Sounds like you have enough time to do this anyway.

The only drawback is that the nice transit lounges and facilities mentioned by Metro man wont be accessable!!

Enjoy

Go to the transfer desk with your baggage tags from your first flight. The staff are great! They will take your bags to the standby aircraft with "standby tags" if you get on, the bags will be waiting for you when you arrive. If not they will put them on the baggage collection belt.

Done it many times!

68 is right.
don't clear customs unless absolutely necessary.
also, the tour around singers is free, they hold all your travel documents.
there is a movie lounge inside (HBO), a small supermarket, harry's bar on the smoking deck, chill out recliners, free internet, etc, etc.
p.s. change any leftover foreign currency at sin a/p, rates better than oz.

Even if you do decide to clear customs, at Changi it's not a big deal. Took me all of 15 minutes from disembarkation to standing outside the terminal when I landed there the week before last. Similar timings to check in and go back through. Amazing what efficiency can do for customer satisfaction.

As I understand his question, QF A330 is arriving in SIN using a commercial ticket and then using staff travel to get to Oz. If this is the case then DON'T go through customs, immigration etc. The QF staff at SIN are some of the rudest and most unhelpful people you will ever come across for staff travel and almost delight at either holding you until it's too late to get the flight of just mucking you around in general.

As 68+ says, go to Transfer Desk C, take a ticket and see what the latest is there. If the flight is wide open they'll give you your boarding passes there and then but even if it's looking a little bit tight (when you know full well you're going to get on) they'll hold you, normally until approx 30 minutes before departure. They'll tell you to come back at such-and-such time and then you just wait over by the right hand side of the counter (in a huddle with all the other staff travellers) and wait for them to call you name. The flights to and from Oz usually use gates close to the Transfer Desk, so don't be concerned about making it from there to the aircraft in time.

SIN is the best place in the World for baggage transfer. My bags always made it and that was going from one airline to a different one. In fact, my record was being on the ground for uner 25 minutes (QF was VERY late getting to SIN) and my suitcase was there in LHR, even though I'd resigned myself to the fact it wouldn't make it......and all on staff travel too

There is a transit hotel at the airport and this is all airside, so you don't need to do battle with QF check-in but, if you're not sleepy, then indamiddle has hit the nail on the head (especially with Harry's Bar upstairs).

Summary: Transfer Desk C and NOTHING else

Hi all we did have to clear Immigration and Customs as the check in counter said that the flight was a bit tight with loadings.

The first check in agent was not nice at all and told us to come back after 17:30, and when we did we picked out the agent who looked like a Sunday school teacher and we were checked in on the spot, with the good seat and not having to go to the gate for the regrade.

After sitting upstairs in the restaurant area drinking water, yes water (have to make a good impression) for 5 hours we were hanging out for a beer and a shop.

Thanks again.
