Darwin Companies, what are they like?

People,

Well my GF has got a job up in Darwin with the government and I am heading up aswell [I feel like a dog on a leash great thing is we have been given a house and relocation allowance.

I've done a fairly decent amount of work and hold lisence for the C208, C404 / 411 - I'm not looking forward to progression, I want to stay in GA

I want to do a bit of history regarding the companies up there - their fleet and exactly what contracts you'd be flying for?

Anyone? likes the Hardy's, Chartair, Air North?

Chartair Operate C206, C210, C404, C208 from memory

AussieNick i think you may have meant Hardys operate c441
(conquest), not C414. They also operate the RPT to the Tiwi islands under the Fly Tiwi banner. Also do Croker and Goulborn island and Port Keats Scheduled Services. Chartairs Caravan is now in Alice at that base i think.

Other Companies in Darwin

Other companies up in Darwin are;
- Air Frontier
- Aviate Darwin
- Barrier Air Charter
- CSG
- Direct Air
- Vincent

From memory

- Air Frontier
Couple 210's and other singles. Also have a Navajo and a Queen Air. They have been around for a while, they have a few remote bases around the NT. Plenty of stories floating around though.

- Aviate Darwin
Couple 210's and 206's, nice selection of Navajo's and Chieftain's. Think they own Chart Air's 404, that's supposed to be making a move to Aviate soon.
Basically they are new guy in Darwin, the big unknown, although seem to have unlimited money and are always looking for pilots.

- Barrier Air Charter
Couple 210's, couple 310's. Every now and then seem to have a 402 or 441 parked out the front with company logos on it. Seem like a nice company everyone is always happy, bit small though.

- CSG
Private Ops, good stories come out of there, but it's all private work. Have some nice aircraft.

- Direct Air
Couple 210's, couple 310's, couple 402 and chieftain's. Guys working there seem happy, nice building. Would probably be giving Aviate and Chart Air a run for their money as the #2 operation on the GA side. Recent management change? Will have to see if its any good?

- Vincent
A fleet of 1900's, have also seen a Dash 8 park nearby. Like a little Air North but with half the office politics from what I hear. Work you hard, but the guys there seem happy - might be the beers at the pub though.

Aviate's advertising for a ME position on AFAP at the moment. PA31 and C400 series advantageous.

Make Hardy's your first and last port of call up there. Once you do, you wont want to work for anyone else. Great family running a great business.

lostwingnut,

Directair number 2? The guys happy?

You just lost all credibility on here!!

Hardy aviation is the place to be in Darwin for the 1000 hours guys with wet season and 200 series Cessna experience period.

CSG are good if you like turning PA31s into amphibs and give pearl and the Mallards a run

If you go to Hardy, you will walk away with 500 multi engine command and perhaps some Metro/Conquest time if you keep your eyes open and your gob shut.

Add ears open to that, and you got your bases covered. Plus, like everywhere, being keen and helping out the other guys if your not busy and they are helps.
