Cobham would have to be looking good for the FIFO of Barrow Is with the 146. Without a dispensation other aircraft/operators may run into a acn/pcn problem.

Yes I agree that you could strengthen the pavement but how long would that take? especially with the wet season approaching, I thought that they were trying to kick off construction early next year.

if they can spend billions on a few tanks and some pipework, surely they can spend a million or two on a bit of concrete, on most large projects the airstrip is the first thing ready
Team America is spot on. The original plan was to extend to take B738 type but the environmental restrictions have prevented this. I think this will leave Cobham nicely with the bulk of the work.

Cobham have the Barrow side of things tied up, and apparently have some loose arrangement with Skippers who will base a couple of D8's at Karratha to do the shuttle runs when required.

NJS [Cobham] will do the required FIFO operations. It wouldnt suprise me that we should see [x] amount of services a day.
No E - Jet's would go into Barrow & as they said, no 738 services would be allowed due to the enviromental impact.

I suspect there may be some accommodation restraints on island, and have heard some type of shuttle from the mainland (such as Karratha) may be in the pipeline, with additional staff housed in camps in Karratha.
I think the BWX strip is Code 3 (146) not Code 4 (E190/738/717) and the ACN of an E190 may exceed the PCN of the movement areas, some sort of concession may be required. Cobham are hence in the box seat as only operators of 146 type.
