Gorgon Flying

Ok so whos going to take the aviation slice of the Gorgon pie?

Wod 28th Aug 2009 08:08

Qantas Link

Cobham would have to be looking good for the FIFO of Barrow Is with the 146. Without a dispensation other aircraft/operators may run into a acn/pcn problem.:} PCN 15/F/A/700 (102psi)/T

Van Gough 28th Aug 2009 08:17

Virgin Blue with the Ejets:ok:

Led Zeppelin 28th Aug 2009 10:10

What about strengthening the pavement to allow bigger aircraft?

sleeve of wizard 28th Aug 2009 10:14

Yes I agree that you could strengthen the pavement but how long would that take? especially with the wet season approaching, I thought that they were trying to kick off construction early next year.:suspect:

ZK-NSJ 28th Aug 2009 13:08

if they can spend billions on a few tanks and some pipework, surely they can spend a million or two on a bit of concrete, on most large projects the airstrip is the first thing ready

Team America 28th Aug 2009 13:42

Class A nature reserve, can't do much with airstrip. Only a very small foot print to work with over there.

flyingfox 28th Aug 2009 13:56

Who knows!

I reckon Ozjet will get it!

mic310 28th Aug 2009 14:50

Network maybe???

topend3 28th Aug 2009 23:33

Team America is spot on. The original plan was to extend to take B738 type but the environmental restrictions have prevented this. I think this will leave Cobham nicely with the bulk of the work.

ZK-NSJ 28th Aug 2009 23:58

those embraer E-190's are now getting in and out of london city, maybe some of those would do

Freewheel 29th Aug 2009 00:16

Comparison of average temps lead to the conclusion; :hmm:

Long John Silver 29th Aug 2009 00:27

738's to Karratha and twotters or (shhh) a herc for the short jump over to BWX.

Mr. Hat 29th Aug 2009 01:18

I thought it had been awarded to cobham.

Change of Pace 29th Aug 2009 02:15

Cobham have the Barrow side of things tied up, and apparently have some loose arrangement with Skippers who will base a couple of D8's at Karratha to do the shuttle runs when required.

That sight will go down well with Dick as he opens his hangar doors of a morning :}

Dunnza 30th Aug 2009 01:58

NJS [Cobham] will do the required FIFO operations. It wouldnt suprise me that we should see [x] amount of services a day.

No E - Jet's would go into Barrow & as they said, no 738 services would be allowed due to the enviromental impact.

yowieII 30th Aug 2009 03:27

So why wouldn't the E-Jet go into BWX then?

topend3 30th Aug 2009 03:27

I suspect there may be some accommodation restraints on island, and have heard some type of shuttle from the mainland (such as Karratha) may be in the pipeline, with additional staff housed in camps in Karratha.

I think the BWX strip is Code 3 (146) not Code 4 (E190/738/717) and the ACN of an E190 may exceed the PCN of the movement areas, some sort of concession may be required. Cobham are hence in the box seat as only operators of 146 type.
