Tend to agree with bluesky. How often does the atsb worry about fully investigating a wheels up on the bitumen?? HF... pilot had the handle in the wrong place.
Curious. How much time on floats did the pilot have? Are we talking low timer thrown in the deep end after the company lost 2 float guys the week before? or was he a high timer that just stuffed up? I fly an amphib every now and then and I must check the gear handle position 4-5 times for every landing, also run through the "waters blue lights are blue" or "grass is green lights are green".
Pretty sure reef flight took over all the float operations up that way at the start of this season.
As for salvage. Pretty remote part of the world, cost of floating the plane and putting it on a barge back to Broome or Derby would be pretty high. What about sling load under a big helo? Could it be done that way? Either way the cost of recovery is going to be High.

Didn’t AG think to do a few quick checks?after Take off or at Top of climb, or how about this one, a Pre Landing Check.
Maybe I am being too harsh, after all the CP must bear some of the responsibility as well.
It looks to me that RJ who conducts the check and training has a few questions to answer to CASA regarding who he lets loose on the public.
Isn’t it about time RF was completely audited by CASA!
CASA must be aware of the systemic problems that exist at Derby: Over the past few years RF have been haemorrhage pilots like sand though a colander , and there are the maintenance issues that need to be addressed as well.
A complete overhauling of management: starting with the CP would be a good place to start.
Don’t forget that, “a fish always rots from the head”
So there we go CASA! there is your challenge!

Does anybody Know if the insurance company are going to rebuild IDO or send it to the tip?
How much would you have to spend on it and with salt water everywhere would it be worth it?
Any thoughts?

VH-IDO
VH-IDO is gone to better life. It is in Canada, is getting rebuilt again paid from the insurance Company.
RJ is an experienced pilot, he is like the guru of the seaplanes. It doesn't mean errors can't happen. In the case of AJ, a guy full of himself and reason for most of Bushflight problems, this accident is not happened for not reasons. Obviously stress, being in a rush and continuously talking with the passengers could be some of the reasons. I was impressed when I heard that ATSB was not going head with any investigation but I reckon is quite understandable for the nature of the accident.
The passengers have been fast rescued and taken on board of the house boat and taken back to Derby hospital. They were all really fit and young guys fortunately and they have been able to get out the plane with not many dramas. Normally passengers on those kind of flights are old with mobility problems as well but all went good.
The plane has been towed on a beach up side down and completely damaged from rocks with the tide change. Maybe it's better then sinking but it was not a smart choice.
Bushflight, owners of Kimberley Extreme and Horizontal waterfalls adventure tours, is now operating with a Caravan on floats from Broome and VH-IMU, a great Beaver from Derby.
Bushflight went trough difficult periods with his pilots and most of the problems were caused from AG attitude. Since the accident we never heard bad things about Bushflight. That's because AG is gone somewhere else probably.

I'm certainly not about to defend the people in question, nor their management practices (lack there of). But I wonder whether 1,2,3,6, or 12 months with the said operator disadvantaged anyone in finding future work? Surely 30-300hrs or more in the logbook and some charter (and float - for those inclined) experience didn't do you any real harm did it!? Sounds like you're still hurting from the pineapple Magritte 1982? One day you'll get used to it, we're in aviation after all!
