ATPL Flightplanning
Anyone out there know how you determine the landing weight for the A to B charts when doing the simlified flight planning section of the exam.
Am using PPSC notes which don't explain how
e.g. Distance 4700 NM, Wind comp -20, 33,000 ft

How I hated this exam. From memory: For flights of up to about 3500nm (?) you assume a landing weight of 140tons (for reasons I struggle to remember properly, you just do it)
For longer flights you assume that you took off at MTOW. To get the landing weight you measure thru the REF line to get an approximate burn, which you subtract from the MTOW.
Usually in the exam the flights will be either end of the distance scale, so the method you have to use should be obvious.

140 t assumed landing weigh? Not having done NZ ATPL exams I'd hazard a guess that the aircraft concerned tends to be landing weight limited for flights <3500nm.
