AAAA Fly In Echuca - 15-17 Apr 16
Just a note that the annual Antique Aeroplane Association of Australia Fly In is on this weekend at Echuca. Promises to be a pretty well attended aviation event for anyone in the area with some cool aircraft attending.
Cheers.
Cheers.
Consider joining this outfit should the operation and maintenance of classic aeroplanes be your gig. For $70 per annum you get full membership rights, plus the brilliant quarterly RAG & TUBE. The issue , March 2016, just out, has some fascinating articles including one about an RAAF Second World War fighter pilot recently reunited most movingly with the very Tiger Moth he trained on at Parafield in 1941. There are always numerous fly-ins scheduled throughout the year, the most notable and well attended being the one around this time at Echuca, hosted magnificently by the cordial and proficient Echuca Aero Club.

I have a very nice model Auster J5 (best Auster award) sitting in my lounge room following the Auster-Short Wing combined flyin at Wentworth a few weeks before Easter this year. We had a good turn up and the Wentworth club made us very welcome indeed.
The Short Wing guys were there in force with some beautiful examples of their type. Unfortunately, some had nose wheels but we did our best to maintain cordial relations by pretending they were all taildraggers.
There is a further flyin at Leeton later in the year and this is always a great weekend of fun and flying. All honorary Austers are very welcome, too!

VH KAZ, just had a quick look on the register, seems John has owned this beautiful aircraft since 1951 ( according to casa web site ) . Looks like he's from Upway, incredible that's it's had the same owner for so long, credit to the owner.

KAZ is an Auster, not a Chippie as Alloverit said. Having said that, the CASA register is not up to date. It shows the owner as being from the year of registration in Australia. In my case 1968 when I was in form 5.
Constructed as a J/1B by Auster. Auster Aircraft Ltd J1B 2672
From 1951 to 1959 To Royal Victorian Aero Club with c/r VH-KAZ.
3 February 2006 To John Doig, Upwey, VIC with c/r VH-KAZ (J1B, 2672).

VH-KAZ, an Auster J/1B Aiglet has apparently been registered to J.Doig of Upwey since at least 1994.

VH-KAZ is a beautiful Auster and John is rightly proud of the work he did to make her so.
It's a bit hard when he parks it next to my BYM and not only flaunts my name as his rego, but wins the best Auster prize as well!
But BYM won the prize at the Auster-Short Wing flyin before Easter and I was really chuffed .
Kaz :-)

Kaz:
Thanks again for your company and assistance at Echuca.
My flight home in the Acrolite was overall enjoyable albeit with an extra night thrown in at Wagga due to bad weather further east.
Your lovely Auster is a credit to you and will undoubtedly win again soon!
