Home built crashes YMLT

A man remains in hospital in a medically induced coma after a light plane crash at Launceston airport at approximately 6 pm yesterday.

The 62-year old pilot crash-landed his home-built plane in a paddock 500 metres south of the runway. Police say he lost control after an aborted takeoff during routine training flight.

Rather vague reports say the aircraft stalled at about 300 feet and the pilot lost control and nose-dived into a paddock.

A Launceston General Hospital spokesman says the man was in a serious but stable condition in the intensive care unit but has improved overnight.
