Hehe , not going to argue on the application of rules but i will say in my case personally it is being strictly enforced.

Don't waste your time and energy and risk "problems", contact Jeppeson Flight Following to arrange the route and clearances.

Thanks for all your replys thus far guys, some great advice in there, all of which is most appreciated. The more prepared I can be for this thing the better!
Thanks to those keen to lend a hand and their time as a co-pilot! Unfortunately there are already 2 crew members to be on board for the op so no positions going sorry!
I would love to hear more about doing the flight VFR as that may be a possibility. And for those wondering the aircraft is a C208B.
