That sounds better than this morning. I was told by SMC that crosswind was mean 35 gusting to 45 knots and runway damp - actually wind was to 48 knots but "only" up to 45 was actual crosswind!!! If it wasnt for the duststorm that was raised, I could have seen the towering equipment off the end of 07 that is stopping any operations across the field.

Only a few brave souls have been flying around Melb this weekend. Was going to go Tassie - forecast was 60+ knots at ground level down south. You wouldn't even venture out in your RV10 Jaba.

25 closed is better for everyone anyway. I personally hate sitting on the ground for 40mins waiting for a start clearance to avoid people having to deal with a crosswind.

Ahhh, you can't really blame anyone for wanting to avoid a 35G45 X-wind.

Esp, if it's more than the a/c can handle.

Ahh yes, I was right in the middle of that dust storm. Hopefully the dust problem will be fixed next week.

Yea obviously in extreme cases but a lot of the time they just switch to 25 when it's no where near limits of most aircraft.

TTF SPECI YSSY 230100Z 25023G33KT 9999 LIGHT RAIN BKN043 BKN050 15/07 Q0988 RMK RF00.0/000.6 FM0100 25020G42KT 9999 LIGHT SHOWERS OF RAIN SCT040 FM0100 MOD/SEV TURB BLW 5000FT

So, up to 42kts X wind on 16/34. I guess that's only 17kts over the X wind limit of most jets on a wet runway!! (Latest Atis has the runway as wet)

Only 4 kts above the 777 x/wind limit . Wet or Dry it's still 38kts.

Contaminated is a different number.

Glad I don't fly into YSSY.
