C172/182 PARTS??? for SIM

Hi

I want to build a full motion C172/182 simulator. but to start I want a fuselage.

Does anyone know where you might find a old fuselage from a 172/182 only want front seat and panel area maybe a foot forward of the firewall but thats not important.

e-mail me with ideas..

Interesting project for sure. Am just curious though why a C172/C182? I know they are used a fair bit for training but it's not like yours will be approved for same. Is it just cost as in obtaning such a basic airframe or would perhaps a more advanced A/C be suitable considering the mechanics behind any of them would be pretty much the same?
Still am sure somebody here will be able to point you in the right direction to start a very ambitious project

There was a bent 172 at northam a while ago :P try western QBE insurance for a bent one after a landing accident. Also an aerostar sitting there that has not moved in many moons.

There is a yellow mooney laying in a field on the side of Armadale road Western Australia. Don't know what that was all about!

Should be plenty of 172's in the mountains of PNG if you want to go pull one out

There is an old debonair laying in a scrap yard in a suburb called Rangeway in Geraldton, has engine prop and all!

I know of a BE36 Bononza that is being scrapped in Carnarvan W.A, its all there and in one piece! think its owned by tropic air.

Perhaps a ring around of stations also as many have old 172's that have not flown for donkeys years for one reason or another tucked away in sheds. I know of a beaut 182 at Turree creek station WA doing just that!

Hope you have a few leads out of that!

Try this guy, I forget his name but he is really nice, though probably pretty expensive as most of it is airworthy, he has some hulls up in roma aswell. 0417 710 481

Andrew, another idea would be to build part of a homebuilt, like the forward portion of the fuse. If you send me a PM i can send you a link to some plans, would just prefer not to post the link

CTC in NZHN have a ****ty old C172 airframe...not "bend", just a crappy outcome
You could go through the motions and inquire, but they might be a bit pi55ed at being reminded about landing in the poo

Hi, About 1998 I flew 2 students who were studying QUT Aeronautical Engineering Degrees. They had audio recording equipment and accelorometers (excuse spelling, my wife is away). They were building a C172 sim. You may have some luck accessing their results through the uni.

Good luck with it.

Full motion, ARE YOU KIDDING

Do you understand what is required for FULL MOTION?
I would suggest that unless you have recentely robbed a bank that
you somewhat moderate your asperations. There are plenty of
SIMS that you can copy without commiting crimes to accomplish
your aims

Am I the only one thinking that a full motion will be MORE expensive and LESS realistic than the real thing?

I appreiciate the effort, but it sounds like it was dreamed up by a government department.

To be constructive. I think a day spent driving and asking questions around the bigger GA fields might bear fruit. EN, MB, Lilydale, Tyabb, Bacchus, Geeong, Colac, Ballarat might be a day well spent from Warrnambool.

Definition of " FULL MOTION "
44 gallon drum on it's side - PITCH
44 gallon drum on it's end ( with PITCH drum okky strapped to it ) = YAW
44 gallon drum on it's side at 90 deg's to PITCH okky strapped of course = ROLL

The trick here is getting the right okky straps.
Child's play

Why Full motion? Why not? if you are going to do something you should do it properly.

a 3DoF motion platform and software for FSX with a 1200lb platform cost approx $15k depending on the AU$.

WHY A C172? because they're fun to fly and who has a C172 motion sim? not to mention a full motion A380 of b747 are just too expensive Beside i'm not a jet jock love my props.

And too hard to find a wrecked DHC8 as a donor cockpit.

"...though probably pretty expensive as most of it is airworthy,..."
I hope you're not suggesting the hulls in Roma are airworthy?

andma. There is a Mooney amongst the Roma "collection".
