"Cabin Crew, Please prepare the cabin for one of my landings..."

Seems to give everyone plenty of heads up.....

Most pilots would land consistently softer than an autoland. It does seem to put it on firmly albeit in the right spot.

As for PA's there always the old:

Ladies and Gentlemen please remain seated whilst the captain/First Officer taxis what remains of the aircraft to the gate.

To admit error to a layman PAX who knows nothing of aviation is simply opening the flood gates and inviting them to mount their high-horse for a gallop down to complaint avenue...

Better to keep quiet than to admit fault to a public that sues others for so much as a dirty look nowadays.

IMHO

a passenger exaggerates a little to his mate that pick him up from the airport. It then becomes a real hard landing with people screaming and cabin crew looking worried. That friend then talks to his mate at the local paper. Who writes a little article
You really think it takes an apology from the PF to start this sequence ? People will think what they want, tell their mates bull5h!t, and papers will print uninformed garbage. That's the way life is.

An apology from the pilot is the least of our worries. Do it, I say. At least it lets them know that we're not quite as up ourselves as everyone thinks.

An autoland is like Pamela Anderson running into jello surf Captain Wally. No matter how many times you watch the magic bounce and jiggle you never get bored....

The airbus does an excellent job, fair touchdown in the zone close to centerline almost every time. Only took over from Pamela once for a long landing.

Lucky man,
who wouldn't want to take control of Pamela and give her a quick fix and get her in the right spot?
