Where's the best place to go bush!? (kununurra, cape york etc?)

Thoughts for the best place to go bush to build hours!? All things considered (e.g. pay, most hours, location, aircraft, time from single to twin)

How longs a piece of string?

Sorry to sound negative; quite the contrary, the world is your oyster. Just avoid the s***holes and try to impress someone enough (mostly by not bending aeroplanes) to get promoted.

I had fun in Kunnas, my mates have fun in Kunnas, Broome, Darwin, Wyndham, Karratha and Fitzroy. Some have also hated Kunnas, Broome, Darwin, Wyndham, Karratha and Fitzroy.

It's been a while since I was there last..

Kununurra was a great place to start. (94-96) Gees, that long ago!!
Broome didn't hurt and eventually, Cairns.

theres been a few treads like this lately. Go and try your luck. I sugest to metally prepare yourself a bit for going remote aussie, things are a little different than in sydney.
Depends on were you are there might be no Mc Donnalds around the block. or in some places not even a take away outlet.
just natives and lots and lots off those little black enoying things with wings on them....lots and lots off them.

Its a good time to start as operators now take People on out off flying schools with no experience just a CPL.

good luck

In your shoes i'd target Northern WA and venture occasionally into NT. But overall I don't think you can beat Broome and Kunnas in that order.

Just be aware that in the wet there is a road (WA to NT) that gets cut off and you have to pick the side you want to be on if you are doing it by car.

I've done countless posts on this topic - feel free to do a search on me!

There has been a few threads like this lately. Go and try your luck. I suggest you should mentally prepare yourself, before travelling to remote Australia, things are a little different than in Sydney (or in New Zealand for that matter).
Depending on where you are, there may not be a Hungry Jacks (McDonald's suck's) in the town. Some towns do not even have a take away outlet of any sort, just indigenous Australian's and lot's and lot's of those little black annoying things with wings on them, lot's and lot's off them.

It's a good time to start a professional flying career, as operators now employ people straight out of flying school with no experience, just a bare CPL.

Good luck
I tidied it up for you see if you can spot the difference :P

now now 'mach', that's no way to treat a gadude I used to get picked on all the time re what yr trying to show/display here but I bought a dictionary & picked up my act a little. Like they say, whilst their picking on others their leaving me alone
Anyway to the thread. I never had the pleasure (if you want to call it that) of having to go outback to build hrs (circumstances for me where simply diff back then but I did manage Broome etc for a few hrs) but I would have thought anywhere that led to multi flying would be of an advantage long term.
I can recall though that unless you had at least 500 TT & a fair amount of experience on C206/210 then you had little chance of flying anything, what's it now? Bare mins fresh CPL?

Thanks mach for that, yep spotted the difference in Mc donnalds. and about the natives. But when you are up north they don't call them either....

I haven't got a dictionary so I just quess lol. Couldn't afford one on my GA wages.

Nah thats not true really, I am not at all complaining about my pay, maybe i should invest in one off those books, but than you guy's have noting to complain about... and we can't have that now can we.

cheers

Ps for the boys and girls planning on going up north, maybe think about investing in a GPS. even just a little hand held. Its a little bit different up there if it comes to points to navigate by than it is on the east coast.
Of course it can be done without, people have done it for years.
But for me it was peace off mind.

Ah ha, you missed one Mach...

lots and lots off them
Maybe we could start a proof reading/translation service to some of our less linguistically able contributors?! Like the Zoolander "School for Kids that don't read so good"?

Is CPL the bare minimums these days for getting the first job up north generally?

Generally the last 12 months in northern WA all you needed was a bare cpl, a half an idea about anything and oh you didn't bend the aircraft on the first landing.

Guessing it will be a bit different next season as the work slows down and pilots hang around a little longer due to no sortcuts to the regionals being on offer.

Biggest thing to remember, if your to lazy to come up then a chief pilot is definitely not going to make the effort of putting his beverage down to call you.
