If the date of each accident written up in Aviation Safety Digest was deleted for those selected for the book project, you would find few would notice any difference between prangs of that era, and now. The big difference would be ASD reports are written in clear-cut English langauge devoid of such double-speak as "Significant factors are..." - rather than "The most likely cause of the accident is ...."
You wouldn't notice any difference because everyone is still flying the same clapped out old pipers and cessnas as they were 30 years ago (and I mean the same aircraft, not the same type!).
The ASD was great - up until the last 18 months or so, whch included the infamous issue 141 that became a game of 'find the obvious errors'.

I'm in. Never have sighted a copy myself, but have heard time after time of it's brilliantness so please charge credit card: 4557 xxxx xxxx xxxx

Yes, it's that time of year again! The Civil Aviation Historical Society & Airways Museum at Essendon Airport will be holding our annual Open Day on Saturday 15 November.

I've got old Mac's 4 ( I think it's 4) soft cover crash books starting from the prop era, great reading also with about 10 stories or so in each, mainly the well noted major accidents, only wish I knew where I have the stashed!
How may of us 'older pilot's used to read them cover to cover then they got left lying around some pilots room or flying school whilst we awaited the next issue? Lots I'd say.
As others have said, pilots crashed all those years ago for pretty much the same reasons today. Re-print them & they woul sell like hot cakes, just don't let CASA have anything to do wit it though!

I first saw the Aviation Safety Digest in 1971 at the home of a mate who had a CPL - then subscribed for 2 years before I got my PPL and went onto the freebee list!

It was recommended the editor of FSA and the powers behind her throne, could take a hard look at the subject matter and layout of current FSA magazine with special emphasis on somehow reducing the number of advertisements, self promotions, and pages of airworthiness directives etc and replacing the space with a well chosen variety of accident reports from both Australia and overseas. Included in the package sent to the editor of FSA were copies of Pprune recent exchanges of opinion re relative merits of FSA and ASD.
It was pointed out that one only has to read the expert comments contained in such professional aviation mags such as Business & Commercial Aviation or Professional Pilot magazine to see how thoroughly interesting a well written write up of accidents can be. That is what we need with Flight Safety Australia.
To date there has been no response....
As an aside I have the majority of the old "crash comic" but not the full set and would dearly love to complete the series. Anyone know where I can obtain missing copies?
