Bin the PPL fancy-pants toys and get a professional pilot's headset
Professionals don't use bose headsets 'cause they can't afford 'em

Even a DC was a save and a stretch for me when i bought mine years ago. Never had a problem with it, not even a popped ear pad yet (touch wood)

I still have a pair of DC's that I have had for twenty six years and they still work fine, kinda like an old EH really! The problem is I now have a new BMW, so don't want to go back!

PS: Mach I only blew two ear seals in 26 years, but when they go, boy do they make a mess...

I wish I worked for a company that supplied me with a set of ANR headsets.

Before i had the BOSE i had a pair of David Clamps X11's. They were good but i had the same problem with them that i am having with the bose. I also found DC to have no after sales service.

For the moment i am using the bose with the ANR turned off with ear plugs in and it works surprisingly well! Going to give BOSE a call on monday, I have been flat chat for the last few days and have hardly stepped in the office.

Our cousins up here must have got some extra $$$ from somewhere.

Thanks for the help everyone

I have a pair of 24 yr old DCs - still going strong. Never blown an ear seal. Have had need of DC service on a number of occassions - like when Jaba cuts the cord off in the door of the Bo - found them (through Pacific Avionics) to be excellent!

Dr you gotta stop sleeping with jaba, you blokes are getting too close to have yr 'cord' cut off in some door.
I have a very old pair of DC's, from the good old days of Ansett (1980 or thereabouts) where I scored an old pair from engineering that had been damaged by pretty much the same way as the Dr's was, cord cut off & mangled due A/C running over them! Had that fixed & used them for many years. The only time I never used a baulky headset was in a jet.Less noise but also less money funny enough

Anybody know of any other brands that work well re noise? I know there's a few cheap ones out there but am keen to find out more.

I've got a pair of Bose X I'm not using anymore. I'll let you (or anyone else for that matter) have'em for a bargain. Come to think of it - I have a pair of DC 13.4X (the ANR ones) as well, collecting dust in a drawer. PM me if interested.

Gday Sprocket Check

I would find it very hard to back to those DC's, I checked out the new Zulu's at a Lightspeed stand with lots of noise in the pavillion very comfortable and quiet, but would like to try them in the air.
