Pigs Wont Fly

Hey All,

Sad to say there were no Pigs at Nowra today.

Perhaps modern sensitivities and global issues have caused a rethink on this demo?

They also closed the VIP bar way too soon. (wtf)

Cheers,
Solocmv,

If you refer to the dump'n'burn... I think not! She was in QLD today doing just that over the Indy 300!

Well, we may have missed the Pig but what about the F/A-18 display with ass splitting turns on full afterburner at about 100 feet. Awsome!
I waited until late afternoon for the departure of the Globemaster and i tell you what, it was well worth it. 1500 metres take off roll with a tight turn to overfly at 200 feet before heading back to Amberly. I took off soon after that just as the Connie was taxiing out.
Excellent day with plenty of flying displays including the Roulettes new routine.
Well done

The F/A-18 display was awesome! The Roulettes display was the usual full display, they just don't seem to do it very often.

A bit of a poorshow for defence though. No handling display from the C-17 etc. Generally the displays are getting tamer as the years go by. Disappointed about the Sea Fury not turning up and the Tracker not flying. Long gaps of nothing between sorties too.

The Stearmans, Avenger and pip put on a great display

I heard the guy in the blue Stearman got in a bit of trouble for starting his a/c and taxiing without clearance THROUGH THE CROWD before any crowd control and ramp supervision had got there... . It happened right in front of me and the guys on the otherside of the orange flags were not the slightest bit impressed.

He also made some pretty tight turns right overhead the crowd line during the display too, although that's just personal observation and I've heard nothing more about that.

The airspace at Nowra is difficult for the Pig, especially with a horse race meeting at the nearby track.

Ive got a feeling the Canberra display on the same day was Arron Wards last display in the F/A-18 before handing it over. Well done to him. He lifted the standard even higher from what Simmo gave us. ( thanks to a bit of new software) The Nowra demo was the first public display for the new pilot and by all accounts he has held up the standed. Well done

At least you guys got there!!!

My aircraft went U/S when the flaps refused to go down during taxi out on my way there.

I was desperate to make it too!!! Line up looked awesome. And despite the owner's (a rather 'reputable' flight school) suggestion to ''take it anyway'' i turned it down.

Did see the Hornet put on an awesome display at CBR open day though

Saw the Hornet at that YSCB event too, very impressed, not too much high speed whiz and bang but quite a few rapid decelerations and high Alphas with a boot full of rudder to get the nose over as well.

Aptly demonstrated the Hornets slow speed handling characteristics. Pilot then got a taste of the celebrity life by being asked inane questions by the local FM commercial radio propeller heads.

Well done to him though, good job.

Point taken 777,
The Hornet driver did indeed do well.

Got to also give a nod to Matt Hall with his 'helicopter handling display'.
The 'Globmonster' would have been good to see doing its stuff, (no point wearing out all that asphalt.)
I agree the demos are a little soft.
Saw a Hornet display (not on our soil) by a Boeing boy, this was not at a public show so efectivly 'no rules'
quite incredable that bits did not snap off or rub off the airframe.

Cheers,
Solocmv.

Correct - the YSCB display was Wardie's last before he gets married next week and then heads off on an exchange early next year. I hear the missed approach was particularly 'special'!

The Hornet driver (FLTLT Ray Simpson) did indeed do well for a first run at it.
Don't go off the name on the side of the jet. The pilot at Nowra was 'Acko' who will be taking over the display duties from Wardie. Note the tub used at Nowra had 'Defence Minister The Hon Joel Fitzgibbon' written beneath the rear cockpit...somehow I doubt he was in it eaither!

You wouldn't happen to be one of the commentators from Nowra?

FA18 Departure Nowra.

If anyone is in touch with the hornet driver from the nowra airshow, tell him from the guys who were standing at the end of runway 03 when he departed, it was bloody awesome!!!

We hung around after the show finished, at the perimeter fence in line with the 03 departures. After waiting ages for the connie and C17 to depart, we were rewarded when ACKO taxied out. He took off towards us, tucked the gear up and held the nose down till he was practically right over our heads 100 or so feet and full AB before hauling it into a near vertical climb and rolling into the cloiuds. Best beat up i've ever seen.

Bloody awesome mate, Thanks
