For all those in majors...

I picked up a copy of Australian Aviation today and in the photo which shows the pictures of the pilots who flew the A380 to Sydney, there was not one pilot who was not of caucasian background.

So I was wondering whether how many pilots you have seen in the majors (QF, VB etc) that were not of caucasion background?

To date, I have not seen many Asian pilots in QF and was wondering what your thoughts were.

Nothing dangerous about the topic, it's just a healthy disrespect for the enemy

My best mate is half Pakistani, muslim by birth and recently did his upgrade to 767 Captain with the rat.

The racial demographic of the senior ranks of QF is typical of what the country was like when these guys joined.

No-one is discriminated on the basis of race or gender as far as recruitment with Aussie airlines is concerned (with the possible argument that there is some affermative action type discrimination, particualrly as far as the girls go)

And when I travel in Asia, I don't see many caucasian pilots.

Why is that?

Do you not mean "Anglo-saxon" or is that term not used these days?

Anglo-saxons refer to the origin of the person I think.

I stand corrected on that though.

race

i dont think many airlines are racist, its just in general, asians, middle eastains or pacific islanders seem to go back to where ever they came from, surely a few guys stay, and i am sure the airlines are more than welcome, if you have the "PR", or "passport", or some airlines only ask for the right to work in aus, which is not very hard i believe.

on the other hand, not many asians or middle eastains, or pacific islanders have the passion or the detication to continue chase the flying dream, or simply dont want to work full stop (not the mention the maoris on the other side of the grass).

at the end of the day, you do the math, its not QF doesnt want to hire them, its not many of the even applying. However, if you are overseas such as india, they just dont want to hire foreigne pilots, so thats another stoy.

As other posts have said, QF has a mix. At least one indigenous Captain, numerous asians [even in the old days the retired flight engineer manager was of chinese background]. Muslims, buddhists, CIA etc.
I don't think race has any place in recruitement.

The pilots I see at QF are from all walks of life, all economic backgrounds and all colours and all religions. There is no descrimination that I have seen by the company or fellow workers.

To date, I have not seen many Asian pilots in QF and was wondering what your thoughts were.
..... trying to make something out of nothing or perhaps seeing a very small sample (there are 2500 pilots) size giving erroneous conclusions?

By the way I have seen and met plenty of pilots at QF from asian background/descent - ABC or similar (australian born chinese or similar).

To be honest...
I had not thought about it... nor do I care

I live in Australia so most common pilots I would expect to see are more "caucasian" pilots (same with NZ, USA, UK etc)

If I went to Asia... I would expect to see more asian pilots

If I went to Africa...I'd expect more african pilots...

Shock and horror I know...

You have got to be kidding me......

Flying High you need to develop some common sense. Lets see 2500+ pilots in qantas, 8 in the photo, so that is .3 of 1% of the pilot body. The A380 is essentially equal with the 400 in terms of the most senior jet in the company so these Capt/FOs are at the top of the list. Back when these guys joined the company Asian Immigration was a pipe dream.

My thought is you should go join Channel 7 for your ability to try and develop a story where there isn't one.
