FunFlight '08 - Volunteer pilots and photographers wanted
Hi all,
Some of you may remember FunFlight - an event which took place in Melbourne last year which provided over 130 kids and their families from the Starlight Foundation and Canteen with a joyflight from Moorabbin, via Tyabb and back to Moorabbin.
We achieved this with the volunteer efforts of forty-plus private pilots who donated their time and aircraft as well as Peninsula Aero Club, Royal Victorian Aero Club, Angelflight and a number of sponsors. Some brief feedback for last year was shown on these boards (here).
After last year we decided to do it again - only as nationally as possible and picking a time better suited weather-wise to the concept. We also decided to formalise things a little and so FunFlight is now an incorportated organisation and is awaiting the ATO to grant charitable status.
FunFlight '08 is planned for November 9th and we are planning events in Rockhampton, Melbourne, Launceston and Perth. We're also working to finalise events in Sydney, Darwin, South Australia and southern Queensland for that day - watch this space.
This is a call for pilots around Australia to sign up for FunFlight 08 and help us achieve the aim of 'FunFlight smiles around the world'. If you are able to volunteer your time and an aircraft on that day at an event near you then please visit www.funflight.org and register your interest. In return, FunFlight will arrange for disadvantaged kids and their families to meet up with you on the day for you to take for a flight and will sponsor the cost of your fuel for the flight.
Some brief details (see the website for more detailed explanations) are as follows. All operations are private operations and VFR only. If it fits with the local event, RAA pilots are welcome (i.e. some events will be through CTA, operate from controlled or GAAP aiports) but our insurance requirements are that pilots must have 250 COMMAND hours and there will also be some slight paperwork needed from your aircraft's insurer. Local aero clubs, with the support of other community organisations (e.g. Starlight Foundation) organise their local events as big or as small as they are able to support so we may need to limit aircraft numbers where possible.
We 're also keen to hear from any other organisations or groups of pilots at locations without current FunFlight events planned who would be willing to coordinate a local effort for that day - pm me for more details. Similarly, individuals or organisations wishing to donate to help cover the costs of the day - particularly AVGAS and so on we'd also like to hear from you.
Finally, even if you can't participate or there is no event near you, we'd still like to hear from you as we have also worked with Make-A-Wish and would like to be able to continue helping one-off events where necessary. Your details are safe with us!

Photographers needed
Fun Flight 2008 is looking for volunteer photographers at each of the locations around Australia. These are

The role would involve photography work for the day of Fun Flight and a SLR camera or similar is preferred as medium-high quality would be requried.
This is a great cause and would be an enjoyable experience for a budding aviation photographer.
