Lots of good memories; the flying was great. As to the company - dumping the pistons was expected; but dropping B200 charter and RPT work to concentrate on more 30+ year old Dash 8s?

Hinterland in CNS have picked up c404 SZO, c402 TSI and are apparently getting a couple of the 310's. Minimal change in paint jobs as well.

Also heard on the radio that Skytrans are cutting back (temporarily postponing) Cairns - Townsville flights due to lack of Dash8-100's available? Unusual excuse for cutting a route that it seems isn't getting the loads!

Hope all the boys and girls who are out of work find a gig soon.

I hope they are not selling the piston fleet to bolster up a bleeding turbine fleet.

Is skytrans still on Dashs only? I see the pistons around occasionally. Do they use it when there are only small numbers out of LHR etc... or did they keep one for charter? I was of the opinion they got rid of them all. Anyone care to enlighten.

All the 404/ 310/ B200 drivers got the boot as of 4th Sept '08 as company was going all Dash 8............ then they hired a casual 404 driver for COE as you can't do RPT there in a Dash......... then they put another 404 back on at TL 'cause loads to PAM were too light for a Dash ....... now believe they are puting the third remaining 404 back on as well ......... wonder what their market research was like when they decide to scrap the 404s / B200

......... wonder what their market research was like when they decide to scrap the 404s / B200 Yesterday 15:40

Lucky enough (or is that unlucky enough....to bloody hot, I'm heading back south!) to be in YBTL yesterday and earlier today. Spot on about market research, or lack of it, from what I saw. On 2 Dash arrivals witnessed yesterday morning, 1 pax got off each. Today, 1 and 8 of the morning arrivals.

No money in those loads, gotta be hurting I reckon. Takes more bums than that to make a Dash pay its way.

Didn't notice the 404 doing much though. Maybe 1 flight yesterday, and hadn't moved today when I left.

Cheers and happy 2009 to all.

Think you'll find the primary purpose of those flights is the moving of government workers in the a.m. from TL to Palm Island, not the Palm Island Locals to TL .. then vice verca in the p.m.

Unhappy

Dont know if your right there mate, i also witness the dash quite often and there were no passengers heading to palm island today while i was there, in fact i think i counted it as 38 empty seats!

I came out to the airport and found their doors closed on the 2nd??? wasnt everyone meant to be back at work??? didnt see any movement at skytrans....then or much since

Not a good sign for any business... Crack-up is right, no pax = no $$$

If SZD was the best, would hate to see the worst

Not sure if I'm missing some subtlety there, but SZD was (at least when first put on line in '06) arguably the schmickest looking Titan in FNQ, if not the entire country. Looked/smelt/felt like it had just rolled off the Cessna show room floor. Certainly a credit to all the gingerbeers in the Skytrans hangar. It flew just fine as well...

Due to most passagers being either govt or bussiness workers and not tourist Xmas is actually a quite time, what govt worker would work through xmas for the good of the tax payer. You will find that as school, health ect get back to work things wil get busy again.
