1st 'Outback' Flight
Pilotette
Hey Girl!
You are a legend. Congratulations on your first big trip away, you done well.
Your next one should be a breeze for you. Drop in to see the RFDS museum at Broken Hill airport. Very interesting. Make sure you leave your resume because they are looking for competent pilots like yourself. If you have time take a trip to Silverton about 15 km out of BHI. Lots of famous galleries and one of the most recognised pubs in the country.
Safe Flying
PS. Do not worry about Jaba, he has already built a bridge to get over it

Just out of curiosity what's the cost per hr of that fancy 172?
I'd hate to imagine what such a trip would cost Still I'd hand back 20 yrs of flying for a credit on that same amount of years
Flying used to be so much fun many moon ago, a doz WAC charts, a pencil & and an old airframe to take you places you never dreamed of, hmmm as someone else said here, sounds like an old G/F I had !
So what's the next big adventure Pilotette?

YBHI..... if you are overnighting, Herts or Avis or whatever can book you a car. Go to Silverton for a sandwich and beer at lunchtime. Do the galleries, don't miss the Council's regional gallery either!
I usually stay at the Charles Rasp - good plain motel. Visit the miners memorial on top of the mullock heap and if you have the dollars and the company go to the attached restaurant for dinner around sunset.
Caution. YBHI often has quite a bit of low level turbulence because of the hills. Watch it on final, especially on 05/23 if there is a bit of crosswind. Don't be afraid to use 32, it's dirt, but with concrete at the end.
If you want to go a few more hours (about 1.5 either way from YBHI), fly across Lake Frome to Arkaroola resort (650M dirt) and stay overnight. Fuel up there or at YLEC which is only about half an hour away. Talk to Doug Sprigg at the resort first, he uses the strip most days.
Then there is the Dig Tree excursion (ring Bomber Harris..."You married?", "Do you like Dogs?", "It gets lonely around here."). 1400M dirt strip, $11.00 landing fee, car or aircraft.
Then there is YTIB...... I could go on.

From memory there is a fair dip in the main rwy at BHI.
Not sure if Mario's Palace in town is still open to the public (Mario was in very ill health last time I was there) but worth a look at the wall and ceiling artwork (as in Priscilla, QOTD).
If rain has occurred in the bush check the NOTAM for the gravel rwy at BHI - I came in from Muloorina HS without checking and found the little white cross at about 200 foot off the deck on final thus saving a possiblly very shortfield landing aided by mud
Muloorina (roughly N and not far from Marree) is a good stopover but you cart your own BBQ grub/grog. They do a 4wd trip out to Lake Eyre.

I am about to complete my own first outback flight at the moment (just one short leg home over a familiar area is remaining). I visited YBHI during this trip and found RFDS site closed for visitors for a few months due to some construction work.
Lake Mungo lodge with its airstrip was definitely one of the highlights of the trip.
