TAA Twin Otter crash PNG 1970. What happened?

In 1970 a TAA Twin Otter crashed in PNG with a loss of all on board (11). The son of one of the deceased passengers is hoping to find out the circumstances of the accident. I found a short summary of the accident (time and place) but nothing else.
Would greatly appreciate if anyone could provide links or anything else such as details of the accident investigation.

Centaurus,

I have a very vague memory of the crash but nowhere near good enough to offer anything on this site. However, I recall that the Safety Digest of the time carried an extensive report on the crash if you have access to that.

Hi Centaurus,

I have a PDF copy of the accident report but can't post it here for IT reasons. PM me and we'll work out how to get it to you.

All my records are back in Subic(I am in Bangkok) so can not help 100% but from memory I think that there was a survivor.

The weather was rather poor and whilst trying to turn back at low level pranged. A Kiwi pilot, D.McK.

As stated the cloud was low & the Otter hit the ridge killing all on board. A FH1100 helicopter from Helicopter Utilities flew the bodies out to Goroka. Too long ago for me to remember the finer points but I do recall some of the instruments were taken by the locals for souveniers. All very sad & not too nice.

I was married to the pilot. All I really know was that the cloud base was very low and he thought he could get below it to land but realised too late. He attempted to pull out by going to the side as it is a very short strip but the wing hit the trees. He was an exceptional pilot and I am so sorry for your loss. At the time though I was told there were three survivors. Sylvia nee Mckillop

This accident is also described on p138-139 of Jim Sinclairs' Balus - vol II

The pilot was well qualified with 5269TT, and 860 on the Twin Otter. The aircraft had only 3905TT on it. He had been fully route endorsed for this route.
