Private hire in BK

Hello all,

Interesting site, this one.

Not wanting to take up too much bandwidth, does anyone know of a single based in BK for private hire? I have a PPL with CSU and retractable but not too many hours. I am looking for a basic hour builder, around 4-6 hours per week.

I need to build time for the 200h CPL test.

As always, as economical as possible, a new addition to the family has caused some strain in the budget sector. I am familiar with most of the schools-they are all easily found on the web, but is there anything in the $100/h range available privately? Even possibly in the RAA types?

Best regards

Best bet would be find a school with a tomahawk or C152 for around 140 - 160 mark around BK. I know VH-UBM (Archer) used to get hired by a school at $70 or $80 dry from the owner but I think it's used by SFTC now... Not sure about RAA.

I looked into the RAA thing but decided against it. Yes they do count towards your hours but you have to consider how favorably 50 or so hours trotting along at 90kts in a Jabiru will be viewed when your trying to convince someone to let you take their 210 as your first job. I could be completely wrong of course but for me I decided that the extra cost wasnt really that excessive.

Jabiru - 90 knots - HOW DARE YOU!

Try a J230 that cruises at an honest 120 knots (going rate around $120 - $130 though)

Even the older J160 does 105 knots.....

Plenty of C150's I built time in struggled to get much past 85!

Dr.: Thank you, but no thank you. Keep your darts to yourself.

rgmgbg01: A Jab is down the bottom of my list. I have flown some and really disliked their handling. I felt like I was flying an eggshell, at least as far as someone of my little experience at the time could tell. Some other ultralights have been great fun however, especially the low wing 'pocket rockets'. I'd love an open cockpit!

hogespa28: I know RAA doesn't possibly sit well with potential employers. However as far as funding the flying training, I work two jobs and am committed to finishing the training without compromising either the quality of my training or putting good food on the table for the kids. I have had a really great instructor that has inspired and instilled in me a good measure of sensibility and airmanship. It's all hours now to get to the flight test.

Yes I am aware that I need to do the test in an aircraft with a min 150kt cruise, but that familiarisation can be done in the last 20 hours of the 200.
I am done with the theory.

If, at then I go to an employer with my CPL, etc and they turn their nose up at me because I have had to do it harder or differently due to my circumstances without giving me a go or at least a check ride, than I don't think I want to work for them. RAA doesn't necessarily mean substandard or unprofessional.

One problem I am finding is the availability of aircraft for hire from schools. That's why I would prefer a private arrangement, especially where someone is not using their pride and joy all the time and wouldn't mind me taking it out a little for sightseeing, so to speak.

Thank you all for responding.

At YSBK, $100/hr (dry) and approx 20 hours/month is not much above cost-breakeven for something basic such as a P28 Arrow.

2000ft - there is a kickass C210 in BK available for hire. Its a little more than the $100 per hour - but its not bad for a couple of hours if you're looking to work out in the bush or NT.

PM me for details.

Last time I checked, it only needed to be 120kts + and have a CSU

Cap'n Arr is right... from the CASA Day VFR Syllabus

"Note: The flight test for a CPLA must be conducted in an aeroplane fitted with a constant speed propeller (or
no propeller) and which has a cruise speed of at least 120 knots at the manufacturer's recommended
cruise power setting."

Ahh, thank you, I stand corrected. 120 knots and CSU, it was late....
