AFT Sept, ATPL course
Hey there, I am starting with AFT on the first to sit my ATPL's, and was wondering if anybody else that trawls through these boards was on the same course. If so, is anybody looking for accomodation? I am coming over from NZ and was thinking about staying at the Atlantis (saves having to take over sheets and pillows etc) if anybody else is interested, PM me, and we can sort something out. If anybody else has done a course up the Sunny Coast and has any other suggestions for accomodation, feel free to let me know.
I won't comment on the AFT accommodation for risk of being defamatory, but there are better places to stay in the area.
Atlantis is expensive - see Michael at the Marcoola Motel. Excellent rates, self contained, your own cooking facilities, free internet, and he'll drive you to the AFT classroom every morning.

re aft accomodation
When I was up there doing the AFT course I stayed at the Atlantis, it was very good accom and would highly recommend it, they also offered a good rate being an AFT student.
Have heard and seen some of the other accom places that AFT offer, and be wary if the offer is to good to be true, some of the other places wouldnt rate in a third world country.

Hullo all former inmates of AFT
The accomodation is fine, just like a big share house, the price is ok, try getting a roof over your head for six weeks for 600. If you can splash the cash, the Atlantis is good and a short stagger form the scubar.
Laz, what course were you on and what SE turbine you driving? PM is fine

Can't comment on AFT accomodation as I never studied there but like Lasio I too stayed at the Marcoola Motel when I was doing various type ratings and endorsements at the airport. Michael and his family are some of the nicest people you can meet and they are genuinely friendly and helpful.

Hey guys, any updated information on accommodation from guys who have been there recently? I'm planning to go there for the Aug/Sep 2016 course so will be looking at 6 weeks stay.
Also...
They way I read it on the AFT website, the Atlantis is cheaper than the Marcoola motel or am I missing something?

I've stayed in both Atlantis and the AFT accommodation. Atlantis was much nicer as you'd expect being a resort style hotel. AFT accommodation is simple housing, you don't miss out on anything.
My only advice would be to stay in the accommodation organised through AFT as that way you share with other AFt students. This makes studying much better as you have others to bounce off of and also an excellent way to develop relationships and widen your network......

Stayed at the Atlantis Resort when I did mine. Shared with two others students (didn't know them, I think they're were simply allocated a room as was I).
From memory, the AFT House didn't have aircon? So if you don't like the heat, it might be best to stay at one of the resorts. The price wasn't ridiculous.

there is one thing you want if you are going to study at your house (and if you want good marks then you probably will) and that is the biggest desk or dining table you can find
the house i was had had a massive table that two of us used and a smaller desk (that was still big) that the other bloke used. these were in the dining/lounge area

I did my course there a few years ago. Coming from Invercargill to Queensland for a Oct / Nov?? course. If you manage to get the house at the airport gate, then it's a simple matter of going home in the evening for dinner, then returning back to the AFT classroom to complete your studying in realative aircon comfort. Placing your bed under the ceiling fan makes sleeping achievable.
Not sure if you can do ASL Australia exams in NZ, couldn't when I did my course, so doing all exams while in Australia may be worth considering. While Law, Met & Human Factors aren't difficult, you'll need to invest some time in preparing for them. That limited my excursions to the Scubar to once a fortnight.

Lack of desk space in you Accomodation is of little concern. You're better off returning to the classroom after you've had Dinner anyway. You can buy a key (refundable on return) which allows you access 24/7/365 on non leap years.
