Hoxton Park to stay open a couple of months longer
Good news for those of you who use YHOX - the powers that be have decided to change the closure date from 27th October to 15th December, as per the latest notam:
C13/08 REVIEW C4/08
AERODROME DECOMMISSIONED
WITH EFFECT FROM 0812151300
FROM 08 150421 TO PERM
Does anyone know if anything is planned to mark the final day?

Australian Aviation Calendar: Airshows, Fly-ins, Events, Flying Activities and more...
is still showing a 'wake' on 19 Oct 08.
Perhaps the organisers haven't heard the 'good' news yet ?
Seems to me that the carpetbaggers have hit a snag, or delay, with their commercial redevelopment of YHOX, although it is good that GA in the Sydney basin will have an extra 7 weeks of somewhere else to go when strong southerlys occur.
But a reading of the new August 08 'Conditions of Use' for Bankstown/Camden/Hoxton, Bankstown Airport - Conditions of Use indicates on pages 6 & 22 that Hoxton is to be decommissioned on 27 October 08.
BAL no longer post any printed information to users of their airports, and it seems that they don't promptly update enough of their website either, so I'm now uncertain as to when YHOX will actually close.

What a bloodly disgrace, that airport should be open as a frieght hub as it is right on the freeway. As usual flying 0 local govt 10.This is a great loss to Australian aviation.

The reason for the pushing back of the closure date??
Well the businesses that have elected to relocate from Hoxton to Camden obviously need facilities/hangars to go to and there are no spare buildings at Camden. Solution? Build more hangars. So they (someone involved in planning from BAL/CAL) go and plan where they are going to build new hangars at Camden for these busineses to move into and even go to the trouble of "pegging out" where the new hangars will go.
The only problem with that is that the new hangars they plan to build are right in front of the control tower. They don't realise that if the hangars are built there then the tower will not be able to see the RWY. Slight problem. Someone from ASA informs CAL of this. CAL go "back to the drawing board."
