Survey helicopter down in the Pilbara

Apparently a Squirrel engaged in GeoSurvey was forced to make an emergency landing in the Pilbara after the magnetometer towed bird got snagged and the connecting cable rebound into the tailrotor with the attendant problems.
The pilot, a Canadian, did a good job of getting the machine on the ground with only minimal injury to the crew.
The helicopter was operating for Fugro and suffered serious damage.

GWN were phoning PBO airport staff trying to get info. Everyone just told them to p1ss off or gave them the runaround. Not that much was actually known at the airport anyway as the incident occurred about 20km away.

I didn't see it on the Perth news tonight so probably wasn't much to it.

Sorry I'm a bit late Youngmic

The cable should have broke near the hook ,there's suppose to be a weak link, so this sort of thing doesn't happen.
Maybe the helicopter rotor got entangled in the, risk matrix , JSP and JSA paperwork. That paperwork can be deadly.
MC.

1st hand information says that atleast 10 motorist drove by the pilot/observer until one "grey nomad" decided to pull over and help out. Random guy in a flight suit in the middle of nowhere all shaken up with the crash out of view from the road in the long grass!

Also person who called in 1st "000" emergency call, sent the ambo's to the wrong place...(wrong road details given)

In the end everyone turned out fine...just a sore back from the pilot I understand.
