Gentlemen, I have an interview with SkyAirWorld on the 18th for a DEC.
As I’m in-between contracts at the moment, I was hoping for any input from y’all about the company.
General internet search yielded a fairly fragile beginning to their jet operation, and I have read other posts, both old and new.
My concern isn’t the interview process, but rather the company itself, from a ‘stability’ point of view.
I’d rather not go OS again as my wife and I like being back in Oz. So can anyone offer a learned opinion with regard to what these guys are like to work for and their prospects of continued stable base operation?
I know it’s ‘crystal ball’ theory, but as I don’t know much about them, any help is much appreciated.

A fair question TAC inop! As you said, there is little information about on the reality of life at SAW and particularly the state of their finances. We all know the price of jet fuel is at historically high levels and may remain so for the forseeable future. SAW are operating new or near new ERJ170/190 equipment and propose to operate 2 used EMB 145's. The unit costs on the smaller jets are particularly high, which is why the 50 seat jets are being replaced with the 70 to 90 seaters by northern hemisphere airlines.
In order to succeed in Australia SAW requires a large and essential cash cushion as they are competing (in the resources sector) for crew change work against operators with significantly lower costs (courtesy of the F100).
If you can find the money trail and satisfy yourself that SAW has the cash to remain viable in the ad hoc charter market then go for it! Otherwise, there are still a lot of other jobs around!!

im with shaftmaster, i too have an upcoming interview with SAW and the search function doesnt produce any pertinent info with regard to actual interview preperation, eg any particular info from folks that have been through the interview and want to help their fellow aviators out, please just post some info. dont shoot people down for wanting to be prepared.

I have an interview for direct entry Captain on the 145.
The add in the Australian sugested the CS base.
Here's the thing, then, since you asked, I have just over 12,000 hours, over 4000 hours jet.
I want to get out of Asia, and back home to Oz.
These fellows are paying very nicely, but I sure wish I knew whether they are going to hang together....does look a little sad tho, I must admit.

Gents,
Have a read of the new thread entitled "Orange Airline?" on the other Dunnunda page. If SAW had their EMB 145 in Orange recently (as the news story reported) touting for RPT start-up business investors, then it seems that SAW is a little short on regular work for the 145 aircraft. Go figure and then decide!!

The E-145 starts ops with Air Niugini tomorrow in between Cairns and Port Moresby, it on the schedule to operate 7 days a week backed up by a Fokker 100. I believe it will be on a wet lease deal and crewed by SAW pilots.

Brisbane - Cloncurry - Cairns will be starting in a couple of weeks with the second 145 three of four times a week. I believe this aircraft will back up the Cairns based 145 which is operating 7 days a week to allow for maintenance.

When that occurs the work will evaporate for SAW and be given to an F100 operator who has enough seat on the aircraft to make it work. If the price of fuel goes down appreciably (to less than USD $30 per barrel) ten maybe the result will be different but in the meantime the costs are just too high and therefore SAW's margin will be too thin, assuming PX pay their bills!

Oracle, now let's do the math. These regional routes may at best raise about 40 pax per sector on a good day. So....small second-hand 50 seat jet for $5 million using 1000 kg fuel per hour versus bigger second-hand 90 seat $5 million jet using 2000 kg per hour. Add nav charges based on weight, third flight attendant on the bigger machine.
OK, a 50 seat turbo prop could be cheaper still, but the fickle public will always go jet given the choice.

The sim ride in, if you are succesful you are higly likely to be sent to london (or perhaps another location in Eurpope, but most likely london) to do the sim ride, and be endoresed on the aircraft...
