As the Dawg said, formation in IMC is no big deal so long as you hold station nice and tight and trust the guy flying lead. Thats the tricky part the first few times

I have flown close formation on a really dark night out in SW NSW...IMC formation looks easier.

On the Military board there is a thread of Mil Pics - page 2 or 3 has a shot of NZ A4's in close formation in IMC

We used to do it on the Herc's in the RAF using a system called SKE...Station Keeping Equuipment.
