GAM adelaide T+C and lifestyle

Gday all,

have just been asked to come and start training for gam with a basing in adelaide. any of you guys out there shed some light on the lifestyle, pay and company.

I know they do the bank runs and a trip to alice and back each weeknight, do they have any other contracts or is it just freight from adelaide??

any help here'd be great, have heard lots of good things about GAM.

Cheers in advance.

V

When I was at GAM, the adelaide boys and girls were working the hardest in terms of flight hours per annum. The upshot is that when you start out as casual you start flying/earning money straight away as those Alice runs through the middle of the night are usually done by the casual pilot. In oher bases the casual had to wait till someone was ill or went on leave before getting a day of work.

In the current market however, it shouldn't be very long before you get a full-time slot because GAM have always had a high turnover of pilots.

Pay is as per the award on salary if full-time, as a casual you get a daily rate. When full-time, you'll work 4/5 days a week usually.

GAM a great company when I was there, haven't heard that change over last year......but remember bankrunners have a shelf life of maybe 2 years because after that you'll be well and truly burnt out.

Good luck and enjoy the experience

It was $200/day when I was there 18 months ago, may have gone up inline with the award.

Hi guys,
I've been trying to find out about GAM for a while now. Do they have set minimums? I only ask because I have bugger-all twin time. 750TT, 100 turbine, but only 40 multi.
Looks like a good place to work hard.
PMs welcome

turbantime,

Pretty sure even 18 months ago the award wage wouldn't have been 200 a day for casuals...

I hear they are well above average as far as GA operators are concerned. Also it's a case of not what you know but who you know to get in with them...

What roughly are the requirements for entry into GAM? I've seen a fair few young guys flying around the commanders so wouldn't think it was all that high.

They still ask for 1250tt with 250 Multi. You can get in with a little less but I know of one bloke who had 500 Multi and was told he didnt have enough experience.

And besides, get on to the back of the queue, it is very long due to the fact they are full and there are several well placed people waiting for a slot.

Back at the turn of the Century, I had 1000 hours multi which was considered not enough!

GAM's was one place I always wanted to work, reasonable money (for GA) and plenty of flying. Most of the people who worked there ended up reasonable pilots too!

GAM

For the new bloods...

They receive lots of applications but a great majority don't follow up with a call or visit. HINT!

When starting out I got told "the squeeky wheel gets the oil" and taking that onboard I jumped ahead of the guys with a lot more time.

Make of that what you will.
