Except they missed the positive rate bit. If I recall correctly this is an old one, and it's a gear collapse / failure, NOT someone being too smart for their own good for once.
Mark, if it's a gear collapse then look again at about 23 seconds in, the gear starts comign down again. Looks to me like a big case of in front of news camera syndrome

I dunno pipercub, doesn't seem a lot of sense to lower the gears again when hes already belly sliding unless he was searching for some way to slow down... but then again thats what air brakes are for right?
I don't see why the gear would come down again un commanded, but I guess straner ts have happened. I just figure showing off for the camera. Then when you're faced with being shipped to some broken down little strip in the far reaches of Mongolia, to fly an AN-2 becuase of your ilttle stunt, I'd be trying everything too!

Looks like the classic 'gear in the up possy before T/off', weight comes off the wheels, squat switch says ok lets get to work here with the rest of the Russian engineering & bring 'em up. Only trouble is no one told the squat switch/s that the A/C was barely if at all off the ground!
Pilot quickly puts the gear lever down in order to reduce his time in the salt mines!
