Helpful Mnemonic's

G'day all. I'm a long time reader/first time poster, and thought that i better make a contribution now that i can call myself a pilot. I'm just getting into the cpl side of things and sometimes am struggling to remember all of the items on checklists especially as it is sometimes a long time between flights . Does anyone out there have any good mnemonic's or workflows ie. puf, hassell etc that could make it a bit easier. Cheer's Povo.

One of my favorites for top of descent was,

CAAAMRF

C - Compass / DG aligned
A - Approach brief
A - Aids, tuned, identified, tested.
A - Altimetry, set destination QNH on Altimeter
M - Mixture, consider descnt mixture settings
R - Radio calls, TOD call, set destination radio freq.
F - Fuel, consider fuel situation, i.e. aux to mains or switch to fullest tank.

see ya

Tad sexist, but works for me.

You just need to remember there's 2 T's and 2 I's.

DVA's / Pre Take Off

T = To = Trim set, Throttle friction set
M = Many = Mixture Rich, Carb Heat cold (2 red knobs)
F = Female = Fuel - Cock, Contents, Pump, Pressure, Primer
F = Flying = Flaps set
I = Instructors = Ignition on both, Instruments set
H = Have = Hatches & Harnesses secure
C = Crashes = Controls full & free

How can you forget your downwinds:

B - Brakes
U - Undercarriage
M - Mixture
P - Pitch
F - Fuel
H - Hatches & Harnesses

or:

F - Fuel
M - Mixture
U - Undercarriage
B - Brakes
P - Pitch
S - Security (Hatches & Harnesses)

I remember both, usually use BUMPFH

bloody hell... pretty soon you're going to need a checklist to remember which mnemonic to use and when... sorta defeats the purpose doesn't it?
