M/e Cir
Hi Every one, I'm looking to do the M/E CIR next month. Where on the east coast would be a good flying school to do it with( besides Johnston as their courses are full in may)

I've heard pretty much only good things about Bob Harris up in Innisfail.
If you're looking around the Brisbane area, you may want to try FTA at Archerfield - I've been reliably informed AN and ML are both top notch. Only issue would be availability - I believe they are fairly busy most of the time, so I don't know how quickly you'd be able to get it done.
In Sydney, I've heard plenty of good things about Bill Whitworth at Bankstown.
For Melbourne, there's actually another thread asking just this question too.
Hope this gives you a few ideas to go and check out. Good luck with the instrument rating!

I hear AV8 have a fairly good price on a MECIR on a 310, however can't vouch for them.
Guy in my CPL & IREX course is heading north to Bob Harris, I have only heard good things about Bob.
RAC do do quite a few MECIR's, but it's in a Partial Aviator, however they do have a 310 as well. Rob Beaumont is a great instructor.

As an employer I would endorse FTA's product - recently employed one of their graduates and his habits and technique are surprisingly good for a bloke with a "bare" CIR.

I will second top operator do not go to coast jet too many problems at the moment since the owner changed.
Which ever school you choose ask them if they have access to an ato, can be a pain waiting to do a test for a few weeks after you are ready.
As for getting a slot to train for the CIR try the smaller schools more likely to get in when you want.

I will third Top Operator !! Have just been let down by this mob after being told my IFR renewal would be ok to renew this week only too be told they cant do it anymore one week out before getting up there. Absolute joke, what a waste of the last month confirming all is ok only too be let down. Pity having spent so much money there in the past gaining licences and endorsments etc. Oh well guess someone else will be getting the dollars from me and not them. How times have changed since change of owners. Respect has been lost from me for CoastJet.
Sad to see J & A's once great business going this way, . 2 greatly respected people in the Australian aviation industry.
I did everything right from GFPT up to CPL and MECIR with Johnston's, and they were brilliant.
Here's hoping it's only a minor temporary setback and it will return to what it was before it was taken over by the new owners.

Sad to see J & A's once great business going this way, . 2 greatly respected people in the Australian aviation industry.
I did everything right from GFPT up to CPL and MECIR with Johnston's, and they were brilliant.
Here's hoping it's only a minor temporary setback and it will return to what it was before it was taken over by the new owners.

Given J & A are still involved, and J & K are still ATOs there, my money would be it's only a temporary set back. J & K wouldn't let their standards slip, they're way too professional for that. The rumours will spread of "don't go there" and the CIR/MEs will drop back to the old 4-6 at a time rather than 10-12. Aircraft going U/S wont have the same domino effect, there'll be a few more quiet spots to do some study and a lot more 1 on 1 time.

Kallavo, you are right...J & K are way too professional and they would appreciate your respect.
Things aren't quite as bad as its made out to be...3 barons, 1 getting engines as we speak,another in for a 100 hourly,the other on line...soon there will be barons everywhere you turn!!
They do go into the hangar a lot,as they are kept to a standard but thats why there are 3,redundancy.
The sims are fine,there have been a few teething problems with the 2 new Elite sims purchased last year,there are now 3 sims,redundancy.
The new owner was faced with a few problems and under pressure from staff has resigned from making any further operational decisions so I think things are on the improve,just like others have guessed it was a temporary setback.
To note though is that the standard of the training is exactly the same as it always has been,J & K being the ATO's make sure of that.
Exceptional instructors dont compromise,they continually strive to develop better tecniques and higher standards.

down time not that bad
As far as down time is concerned due to Barons or sims....well it ain't that bad. The course is pretty intense and you are never really in your comfort zone. I did the course last year and we had a day or two off due to some problems but the students didnt really seem to mind as we used these days to catch up on paperwork, studies and basically just to recharge.
So as far as down time is concerned...its pretty much a non issue.
